BirdOfTheDay, theme 'TheGathering'

gamingJun 10, 202646019,735

Today's BirdOfTheDay weekly photo prompt sets the theme "The Gathering", inviting photographers to share images of flocks, colonies, and communal bird behavior. Submissions span a black-crowned night heron roost on a Taipei roof, a mixed feeding group of pigeons, collared doves and sparrows, a flock of redhead ducks over Cayuga Lake, and a black-and-white starling gathering at Rye Harbour. A video by owlice333 documents American white pelicans feeding cooperatively through coordinated herding, highlighting how the theme showcases feeding, roosting and migratory social strategies worth exploring for birdwatchers and photographers.

They have become my favorite. They’re just precious, so calm and polite.😇

There is one that perches on my open window sill once a week. For years…

The mourning doves who enjoy our feeders are like sheep, easily startled. This morning, the doves were startled & took off so abruptly that they frightened a squirrel. Such chaos!

Morning Doves have a nest in the eaves above the window behind my desk. I love hearing them cooing.

We call them church ladies, can just imagine a little purse tucked under wing while they walk along the sidewalk

Mine too. Their feathers look so soft and velvety, and I love to watch them walk across the lawn searching for seeds, with their little heads bobbing. And of course the coos!

They truly are "harmless as doves". Such darlings albeit a little slow to react. 💕

I love the sound they make. It reminds me of my childhood - I would hear them on warm summer mornings through my bedroom windows. 💗

I have a family in my courtyard 😎

This is Doris and her wee birb (last year). Doris and Morris return to my yard every year…they are wonderful 😎

I like them, but they hog my bird feeders and won't let any other birds eat.

HexaPebbleSeed2

my cats love to watch them through the window - their version of soap operas?
