NASA confirms Artemis III will orbit Earth in 2027

scienceJun 10, 20262114,622

NASA confirmed that Artemis III will orbit Earth in 2027 as a roughly two-week test of commercial lunar landers, and the first crewed Moon landing has been moved to Artemis IV in 2028. NASA named Randy Bresnik, Luca Parmitano, Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas as the four-person Artemis III crew for the orbital test. The mission will evaluate commercial lander docking, crew transfer procedures and partner hardware in Earth orbit before approving a lunar descent. Pushing the landing to Artemis IV shifts the timeline for returning humans to the lunar surface to 2028 and gives NASA more time to validate partner systems.

It's hard to be excited about the Artemis III mission announcements when the CEO of the company making one of the mission's rockets has spent his week inciting racial violence via his personal social media platform.

katie not being able to fully enjoy the successes in space and electric cars is kind of depressing tbh

Alejandra Caraballo379

This is the second time he's done this. He helped incite riots in 2024 that resulted in hotels housing asylum seekers being burned down.

Harry202

Biden should have nationalised SpaceX when it became clear Musk was; A) Security concern B) Failing to build a working rocket.

rammies34.bsky.social140

When can we just go back to NASA instead of billionaires who like to blow things up?

Comfortably Numb139

US government really need to extricate itself from all Musk's contracts. It's disgusting, and it's a national security risk.

Michelle A. Rodrigues 🐒73

And seeing an all-male crew and arguments that it’s a completely meritocratic selection.

Christian Petersen49

It's wild how quickly a billionaire doing two nazi salutes can be forgotten...

Time Being46

I've honestly lost hope that things are going to get any better than this in my lifetime. Now I'm just hoping not to live long enough to wind up in the camps if I'm being honest.

Stef "inclusion is a human right" Christensen28

We so much joy with Artemis II and now this

Anarcho-Crust Demon Hunter27

To be fair there’s a long precedent of Nazis making rockets to go to the moon 😬

Anthony Butt26

Why don’t these tech bros spend the money on humanitarian initiatives here on Earth? Nah. Far too selfish. Truth is they’d rather spend their money on useless toys that explode and rain down pollutants upon the oceans and the earth. Just confirms what we already think of them.

Romaq24

I loved the SpaceX Starship launches until the stink got so bad I just couldn't separate the futuristic dream from the fascist nightmare anymore. Thanks, Elon! I hate it!

rnmay.bsky.social19

Everything is so fucked up, and after SpaceX goes public on Friday, that shitbag will have another $650 billion to throw around.

inhalo123.bsky.social15

and receiving USA Taxpayer Funds to do it with... Deplorable. A dang shame that the USA Let It All Slip Away. January 6th, 2021. A Day that will Live in Infamy... Elbows Up Canada...

Jeff13

They all believe they can fuck off to Mars and leave us plebs to suffer the consequences of their fucking capitalist consumer shitshow down here. I've news for them - they cannot leave this earth. 😬

princess fingerblast 🪬🇵🇸🏳️‍⚧️13

I read that 27 persons, including children, were left homeless last night. Got only knows what is happening tonight because last I checked they had braced hard

fates and furies Ω13

Also Elon Musk is literally a mass murderer.

MadGreek 🧿13

Fuck that billionaire and his small dick/rocket.

finitewakeups.bsky.social12

He puts X on everything because in computer ascii code, the letter X is made by the number 88 and in white supremacy gibberish, the number 88 stands for H H (H is the eighth letter of the alphabet) so HH is for heil (insert fascist name). Elon thinks he’s clever but he’s just a tired old bigot.

Katie Stone10

And all male astronauts. Buzzkill.

David S. F. Portree10

we can take comfort in the fact that his rocket and the lunar lander it is meant to launch are as fundamentally flawed as he is

Janis💙🦋🇺🇦9

It’s hard to be excited about anything related to America because of him unless you are white supremacist

Mirjam Sp9

Do we really think his rocket will be ready for this? I assume we are all aware that IF it flies, these astronauts are human guinea pigs. No in-house safety tests and triple safety guards for Elon; he tries things out in the field and believes in living dangerously…

The Beethoven Group6

The whole Artemis program is so white supremists in govt could feel better. It’s freaking trumps program.

Dwain S6

And the overvalued, highly speculative SpaceX IPO is a ripoff where you-know-who will retain 85% of the voting power. The IPO woul pull in $75 billion of public capital much of it through automatic passive index fund inclusion to spend it on any thing he chooses with no public accountability.

Bouvier Mom6

I’m an idiot because I did not know Musk was a sponsor of the Artemis mission. Fuck Trump. Elon Musk should be arrested and charged with crimes against humanity.

Brainmist6

I desperately want the stink of racist, corrupting, hubristic oligarchs off the national treasure that is NASA.

Daroon 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 🇨🇦6

It’s hard to be excited about anything to do with space travel when the rockets are owned by billionaire douchebags and every rocket launch makes climate change worse. Fact: The worst place on earth is infinitely better than the best place on Mars.

jadehawk "FREE ŁINK"5

upon further consideration, maybe they should go back to planning that mars mission captained by a billionnaire (and hopefully crewed similarly). i will wish them (gravity) well on their journey

Canadian5

I wish he’d get into one of his little rockets and GTFOH🚀

Adam J Schmidt5

Certainly doesn't seem like the kind of person who should be allowed to hold a leadership role in a soon to be publicly traded company with large government contracts.

lesterryan.bsky.social5

Meanwhile the other guy says that taxing his wealth wouldn’t make a difference to teachers struggling to supply their classrooms and make a decent living.

c t5

it would be cool if the Space Race nostalgia didn't also come with our own personal Wehrner von Braun. like we could just do it right this time.

Ken Yee5

But consider also how many deaths his DOGE continues to achieve. (I feel there is more appropriate word than achieve here). Ok, this isn’t helping, is it. :-(

nichrome77.bsky.social5

Katie, part of why I love you is that you are a nerd who can actually look at the whole world at the same time and recognize what’s really important. Thank you for saying that.

kridnix.bsky.social5

If you think that is bad you should read about the antics of the guy at the head of the government that funds NASA!

Matthew A. 🖕🧊5

I’m with ya there. I work at NASA and it’s really does suck that two of the worst people own the companies building our lunar landers. I will say neither gets a dime until (and if) they deliver so there’s that

afortiorama.bsky.social5

I felt the same about artemis II also no women this time... and he's also one of the people responsible for DEI systematic dismantlement.

Jeri5

He should be considered a criminal of sorts for this type of media violence and his US citizenship stripped away. Booted out of our country. Minus sketchy funds obtained through government contracts.

Axe Bloody Spray5

Starship will never go to the Moon, let alone Mars. The refueling alone is a non-starter.

The Liminalist5

If anyone told me prior to about 2010 that I would not watch rockets and space missions on purpose I would have laughed for a week. Honestly, also finding it difficult to get excited about an all-male crew in 2026.

a cute f slur (they/them)5

don’t worry he also can’t make a rocket contracted for the mission that actually works too

Freestatefemale4

I would not trust his rockets.

John exX4

Musk taints everything he touches. I try to avoid inadvertently supporting anything that has him as a participant. Artemis is one of those.

rialmi.bsky.social4

I'd say it was impossible to be excited about anything that freak has touched... everything he does is in service of a deranged and personal agenda.

Reznorected4

The entire Artemis mission is about politics. We are racing China to what is believed to be water, on the dark side of the moon. That's the whole reason we are doing this at all.

BiochemDoc4

Musk should be deported. And his SpaceX IPO sidelined before he destroys the markets with it.

Tommy Owens 4

I remember the anticipation in the spring of 1969 when the moon shot was imminent and again in the spring of 1976 with the upcoming Bicentennial celebration. In contrast, I just feel dread now. It feels wrong celebrating a country that has gone this far off the rails. Trump ruins everything.

Valentenya the climate cat 🍉 🐈‍⬛4

Also while America commits crimes against humanity.

Ly4

Elon is a psycho and for years off-handedly I'd go "fuck SpaceX" and people would say "noooo they don't really talk to Elon he just funds them, they're differentttt" now it's an AI company

swmark78.bsky.social4

Actually it can be. Because they'll have to go to a Plan B as the rocket Elon is building won't be ready and might never actually work. Oh and when the AI bubble bursts it might take his company with it.

Dawn 🇺🇦 Slava Ukraini4

Kinda like it’s hard to be excited about the country’s 250th because 🍊is trashing our country? I get it.

blueshirtGuru3

all he wants is our money anyways

PoundingThePodium3

We went to spce to beat the communists, and they didn't let women or black people be astronauts. I struggle with the cognitive dissonance, with whitey on the moon- but fuck me I just love space. To me it's hope for the future, for a future better than we can imagine.

A Guy Named Todd3

It seems Elon isn’t involved in the Artemis III mission anymore. Originally it was planned that Artemis III would land on the moon using the SpaceX starship. The mission objective was changed because starship only seems to be able to litter itself all over the globe. www.bbc.com/news/article...

8-Bit3

NASA needs to stop all funding for the starship lander and concentrate on the blue moon lander, it’s obviously a more realistic approach.

piscatoriallove.bsky.social3

He really should have just stuck to getting high

Hal 100003

I focus on the people actually doing the work at SpaceX instead of the great white dope taking all the credit.

Marcus Kelson3

Well he is a cunt.

Julianna3

I can get excited about the astronauts and the mission while condemning one of the mission’s suppliers for his racism. The astronauts deserve better.

TheCommonAgenda2

Musk's vision has been out in the open the whole time.

Tina S2

I know. I hate taking away from the astronauts and scientists who are making this happen. Yet - here I am.

danjac.eurosky.social2

NASA getting to the Moon with the help of Nazis is on-brand though

Bytemask2

I have so much cognitive dissonance about space flight right now.

Blueveiner2

Musk’ starship has not yet reached Orbit, every liftoff and return flight has had some kind of a problem, starting to think it’s just a huge Scam

Juhleen2

It's 1956 Nazis are working for NASA ... It's 2026 Nazis are working for NASA

🇨🇦 🇲🇽 🇺🇦 🏳️‍🌈 🇬🇱2

Plus it’ll blow up. Seems to be the norm.

iclee3.bsky.social2

Wouldn't the tendency of that company's rockets to experience rapid, unscheduled disassembly be more of a dampener? Why is that company even involved, when they can't do their job reliably?

Rob-Tee2

NASA and the US taxpayer has been scammed, Starship is not a viable component of Artemis, Musk has lied and delivered nothing. Kiss goodbye to getting back to the moon before China. And now Musk is focused on ripping off the US again with the Space X ipo as well as spreading hate, busy week for him

gump-report.bsky.social2

I left that cesspool of hate three weeks ago & what a great feeling!

Doc Holliday's Corpse2

when we regain control of the government, we cancel ALL of his contracts

CT2

Agreed. But be excited about all the women (and men) coming together from all walks of life to make the space suits. Different company I might add.

madeleine-100.bsky.social2

In fact, it's hard to be excited period, because it's pointless bullshit, and a massive waste of money when there are big problems on Earth.

Kirsten2

The worst people in the world have stolen humanity’s best endeavours.

pound2

Muskrat has been regularly nazi-posting ever since he took over Twitter, and the media has really failed to point that out enough. He’s been supporting far-extremists who are banned from multiple countries, and endorsing their ideology and rhetoric.

txok7376.bsky.social2

Hello. For me its not just that. Its also knowing these companies will never help right the wrongs in the world. I think I am going to go out with old age before any problems in the PC and Tech space are fixed
