Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day opens to reviews noting familiar sci‑fi beats

Steven Spielberg's new alien thriller Disclosure Day opened this weekend, explicitly echoing Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., Minority Report and The Post while staging a first-contact narrative. The film stars Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor; early reviews range from five-star raves to B-plus assessments, applauding Spielberg's craft and Blunt's performance while criticizing its familiar plot beats. Set largely in a nostalgic 1984 atmosphere but featuring anachronistic cellphones, Disclosure Day culminates in an emotionally charged final 10 to 20 minutes that reviewers highlighted. The movie matters because Spielberg uses blockbuster spectacle to probe trust, shared reality and how societies might react to definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life.
