Washington National Opera sues Kennedy Center for $17M

The Washington National Opera filed a federal lawsuit Thursday seeking more than $17 million from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. WNO says the Kennedy Center refused to return donor gifts, bequests, and the opera’s endowment funds after the organizations split earlier this year. The complaint says the center used WNO’s endowment funds as collateral for a credit line and withheld donor contact information. A court ruling could force the return of donated funds, affect WNO’s financial stability, and deepen the Kennedy Center’s fiscal and legal challenges.
