Half of world’s children exposed to 3+ climate hazards, UNICEF says

UNICEF says half of the world’s children are exposed to at least three overlapping climate hazards, including heatwaves, storms, floods and droughts. The agency adds that almost every child globally, including those in high-income countries, now faces at least one climate hazard. Those overlapping hazards increase risks to children's health, education, housing and safety by driving heat-related illness, displacement and damage to schools, homes and health services. UNICEF says this exposure makes child-focused adaptation and rapid emissions reductions urgent to protect development and future wellbeing.
