Obama Presidential Center dedication, grand opening livestreamed
Barack and Michelle Obama led a star-studded dedication of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago's South Side, with the grand-opening livestream starting at 11 a.m. CT. The $850 million, 20-acre campus houses a museum that highlights Obama’s presidency and exhibits like "10 Letters a Day," but prioritizes community programming, public green space and civic leadership over a conventional archival presidential library. Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Joe Biden attended the dedication, and the center opens to the public on Juneteenth as a long-term hub for arts, education and community organizing on the South Side.
The Obama Presidential Center is finally opening! Tune in today on Obama.org starting at 11am CT as Michelle and I share what this moment means to us and celebrate with friends, family, and members of the community in Chicago.

Look at all that willing talent! One of the biggest perks to being loved by the American People? No Lee Greenwood or Kid Rock or Vanilla Ice necessary!
Congratulations. Having Stevie Wonder and Christina Aguilera there is absolutely a beautiful moment. You’re gonna have a nice celebration, Barack!!!!
Will be tuning in from Prague, Czech Republic. Have a great day, well deserved.
Deeply grateful to both of you. I remember the speech you gave at the DNC in 04(?). You inspired hope so strong that even in these times, I hang onto it. First Lady Michelle Obama is the epitome of strength, beauty and brilliance. Thank you for serving us so well. 🫶🏼

Some good news in America....yeah!
I just feel bad for all the other major stars who were turned down because of the huge numbers wanting to celebrate with you.
So much respect for your continued contributions to we, the people. Thank you sir.

A breath of fresh air!
Happy opening day 🥳 Mr President!
Not even heard of any of these performers. Where's Kid Rock or Vanilla Ice? Loser!
Will be watching from my now-home, Albi 🇫🇷. Congrats!
Former Presidents Biden, Bush, Clinton, and, obviously, Obama will attend the Obama Center opening today in Chicago.
Now if only they would issue a joint statement condemning Trump
The sane ones... and W too.
In short those who were President of all Americans, not just of oneself plus family.
George W. Bush has to be one of the worst ex-presidents in my lifetime; totally worthless.
Now, there’s something positive & reflective of our Democracy to which we can look forward!
Glad to see that there won't be a turd in the punchbowl.
Good thing that Trump wasn't invited. He'd have demanded the center to be renamed to "The Trump & Obama Presidential Center".
Keep the orange mess away from everything dignified. He simply doesn't know how to act in a social setting. He doesn't know how to act in any setting, how many times has he embarrassed himself on the world stage? Too many.
Trump wasn't invited because they're afraid he'll try to put his name on the building.
I can't get excited about the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. It feels like a relic of the past. It focuses on a kinder, gentler America when the current version is shape-shifting into an ugly monster. It's time to fight for our lives, not celebrate.
I'm enjoying most of the comments on this post. Yes, no one should steal anyone's joy. We need it. Folks who want to celebrate Obama should do so. Knock yourselves out. I'm just saying that while we celebrate the past, we need to spend most of our energy on the future, which is looking mighty scary.
Fighting comes in many forms. I think celebrating the goodness and dignity and benevolence of the presidency and specially Obama and what he stands for is a form of resistance to what has sullied and broken America in the present
The government wins when they steal our joy. We can’t let fascists take our last vestiges of decency and humanity.
I think we can do both, and sometimes it’s nice to have a reminder of what we can be.
Maybe the celebration fuels the fire in some...and re-energizes folks running on empty.
But a live reminder of the possibilities is never a problem.
So blame your fellow white voters & leave us out of it. They did this. Once again you all are asking Barack & other Black folks to temper our joy & not celebrate ourselves to make you feel less guilty. The audacity never stops.
It inspires me. I’m excited about the library but I’m also ready to fight. I just hope more Americans are willing to work towards getting rid of these fascists.
A day of the Obamas is just what my soul needs today. I will celebrate and relish it. Tomorrow I will be back to the fight for our lives.
I’m excited about it… 🤷♂️
I'd be there if I could. We need to remember what we are fighting for.
I think both are worth doing myself.
So, celebrating & remember what the Obama administration accomplished & stood for is not appropriate right now is what I’m hearing you say? That’s ridiculous. 🤦🏻♀️ Now more than ever we need to remember who we are as a country and what is possible. We always need more positive energy in this world.
Just go on ahead and delete this post
On the flip, it’s one petty way to get under Trump’s skin to play with his ego. But is that all we’ve become? A “na- na” you don’t get a building, I do? Or “look at who played at my event vs. yours?” Still Trump deserves to have his face shoved in it.
I agree, it was sad in a way when I toured it. But it also gave me some inspiration and hope, reminding me that America is an ideal and a goal to work towards. A more perfect union.
