Three-team trade sends Julius Randle to Brooklyn; Nic Claxton to Chicago

The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick to the Brooklyn Nets while the Chicago Bulls acquired Nic Claxton in a three-team deal and Minnesota received Brooklyn’s No. 33 pick. Randle’s time in Minnesota ends after two seasons as Brooklyn adds a veteran frontcourt scorer. Chicago is using roughly $23.1 million of cap space to take on Claxton, adding a rim protector and interior rebounder while trimming its remaining cap room to about $30.9 million. The Wolves clear significant salary and open full mid-level exception flexibility, positioning them to pursue signings or trades such as re-signing Ayo Dosunmu or chasing other roster upgrades.

I hate this. The new CBA is so restrictive teams can’t keep anybody. Nuggets running into this as well. OKC should be able to keep their team together for a long time and they basically have a year or two at best. Same with SA.

I get that Randle is overpaid and did not perform well in the playoffs, but that is one of the most brutal salary dumps I have ever seen, particularly for a healthy player who just averaged 21/7/5 over 79 games.

The Bulls will use $23.1 million of their cap space to acquire Nic Claxton. They go from from $54 million in cap space to $30.9 million in room remaining. They would still have the $9.4 million room mid-level to use after. Great business getting him essentially for free.

I'm going to miss Julius Randle. I did like him for a long time even though he became a very frustrating player with moody vibes and didn't deliver in the playoffs this year. I'm also going to miss the reacts from his son Kyden. I bet he'll be a good addition for the Nets.
