Sally Nugent presses Nigel Farage on BBC Breakfast over £5m gift
On BBC Breakfast, presenter Sally Nugent pressed Nigel Farage about a £5 million payment from Thailand, asking whether it had been declared. The interview grew terse as Farage repeatedly refused to answer Nugent’s questions and became visibly agitated. Nugent’s questioning centered on whether the £5 million should have been reported to the Electoral Commission and whether it relates to his political activities. The exchange matters because Farage is a high-profile political figure, and a £5 million payment raises legal and transparency questions about campaign finance and public trust.
Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey has unveiled a billboard campaign across the UK to mark the 10th anniversary of the Brexit referendum today. The billboards call out Reform leader Nigel Farage’s £5 million "reward for campaigning for Brexit, whilst people across the country feel the pinch."
Finally! Finally someone's taking the fight to him.
Excellent! Thank you @eddavey.libdems.org.uk @libdems.org.uk @chulmleighed.bsky.social #Brexit
Good move from the LibDems. Way past time to ramp up the rhetoric.
Lib Dems really are underrated. They don’t get the media attn they should BUT imo they’re stale. They need a change in leadership and more dynamism. ED has been ok, but now is their time to really push forward while Labour are in disarray. Give the punters a real alternative to the RW. Act now!
Farage has what they call the ‘Sadim touch’ (Midas backwards), whatever he touches turns to 💩.
Fabulous! Putting the frog-faced grifter exactly where he belongs; grubby little spiv
Nice to see Farage getting his arse handed to him in a rare live interview by Sally Nugent this morning. “Nobody cares about the £5m” “The electoral commission do” 😆
Also pulled him up on the hypocrisy of calling for a general election.
I care about massive bribery and corruption in our politics and I'd bet that most of the electorate does too.
I expect he regrets crawling out from under his rock today.
This is noteworthy because it happens so rarely. Farage the darling of the BBC . It was really good to see an actual interview.
If I've every heard one "Boris Johnson got a paid too" was a man on the ropes reply. Shame is wasn't pointed out that Johnson also lost his job and resigned due to his corruption.
Think he meant to say -Tice doesn’t care ? goodlawproject.org/reform-mp-ri...
credit to Sally Nugent who just, in normal circumstances, brought Nigel Farage's political career to an end. If polls don't plummet after this, I will be truly astonished.
"I've been physically the most attacked politician" He's been an elected politician for 27 years, in that time two MPs have been murdered.
Just an observation. But he never talks to male journalists like that.
"Most attacked politician in Britain" Jo Cox and David Amess might have had something to say about that, had they lived
The polls won't plummet because his support base just want to see the Farage who stands on the cliffs of dover and tells them that blue passports should equal free beer* *might not be a reform policy for all I know This won't help those of us who think he's a grifting tool mind!
Sadly his base, just like Trump's, don't see anything wrong with grifting. They know they would do likewise if they had the chance; and far from being upset about it, seem to be impressed with it.
Lol was someone slurping the ends of a milkshake cup while he was speaking? The level of brilliance if they were!
I'm no body language expert, but, is that not a "I Surrender" gesture?
If he tells her how much of the money he's spent, he'll be in danger? If that isn't a tacit admission that he's spent the money on things he really shouldn't be spending the money on, what kind of fucked up logic is that supposed to be?
I wish he wasn't part of anything we have to think about any more.
🏎️ As of now Farage should always be referred to as „Nigel Ferrari“ #NigelFerrari #NigelFarage
The most attacked and endangered politicians over the last 10 years, after insisting he wasn't in politics when he pocketed the £5m Fair play being endangered by a milk shake, is £5m enough, what if there are chocolate sprinkles?
This is why he has been in hiding. He can’t defend this. P.s the public do care ;)
James O’Brien’s career highlight was his interview with Farage. Perhaps this is Sally Nugent’s. It isn’t difficult to expose him as a dodgy geezer.
The BBC Breakfast interview with Nigel Farage is worth watching back, in part to see just how grumpy - and patronising – he gets when asked about the £5m gift. "It's literally none of your business," he tells Sally Nugent when she asks how much of it has been spent and on what.
Farage's political gift was in part that he was the one who might be fun to share a pint with. He doesn't look fun now. He also, very clearly, finds it harder being interviewed/questioned by women, and I think broadcasters are catching on to this.
It isn't up to Farage to decide it's none of our business for a start.
He does seem to get more angry with female journalists or is it me?
Didn't he stand up in Parliament (on one of the rare occasions he attended) to have a go at Starmer during "Freebiegate" to sneer about how he had paid for his own suit? Imagine what Starmer could have come back with if the £5m gift had been declared?
He’s a chip of the old Trump block, sort of a mini me.
Nigel Farage says £5m gift from crypto billionaire is ‘not any of your business’
This guy has such a punchable face.
It is everyone’s business, he is an elected MP (unfortunately) and is accountable.
Why are all right wing populists so corrupt? All of them. Do people sleep walk through life? Isn’t it clear what their true agenda is?
He doesn’t get to tell us what our business is.
Oh, so his excuses didn't satisfy the media. So now it's aggressive refusal to discuss it further? Really does love following Trump's playbook doesn't he? When does he face Parliamentary Standards? Love to be a fly on that wall!
If it's "for security" why isn't he holding constituency surgeries? Baffles me how anyone could even consider voting for that grifter! We're billIIIllions worse off because of Brexit!
He would sure as shootin' make it his business if a £5m gift went to literally any other MP. Bloody duplicitous git
This is one more proof that this man is not fit for the job he’d like to have. When a politician receives 5 million of GBP it is a public matter.
He's so rattled by this. Keep up the pressure. All journalists should only ask him about this. All of the witch-hunts around Keir's beers, Angela Rayner's taxes etc. and this is FIVE MILLION POUNDS.
It isn't for Farage to say whether or not it's anyone else's business. He's an elected politician. If he doesn't like scutiny, resign and fuck off forever.
Just like Trump the law doesn’t apply to him in his eyes.
Everything he does, as a prospective PM, is in the national interest. The fact that he doesn't understand this, alone, makes him unfit for high office.
But it isn’t Nige, you total chancer. What was paid for with this VERY generous gift 🤬
Didn’t he literally own Reform UK company Limited in 2024 when he took £5m unconditional gift from a foreign based crypto billionaire? But clearly, just being the major shareholder in Reform UK Ltd means he wasn’t in front line politics then so there was obviously no quid pro quo. I think - no?
He was careful with his words in saying it was a gift when he wasn’t in politics at the time. What that doesn’t exclude is that it was a gift (bung) for him to go back into politics by standing for Parliament.
He always says this when it’s about him (but the opposite when it’s someone else).
I despise this man. I shouldn't waste my energy on him but the BBC had had him on the news this morning and I was shouting at the TV as i turned it over. He is just despicable.
A cunning stunt as usual, his usual blend of hypocrisy, lies and bluster. Somebody has to bring him down from his high horse so that the world sees the back of him.
there are no 'private matters' for a political figure; full transparency or be removed from office (not that the people of clacton would notice)
That probably sounded better in his head - in the original Russian.
He effectively equated it with Nick Robinson's salary on #R4Today. A salary is payment for services rendered, so it's not a smart move to equate that with what he claims is an unencumbered gift. Parliamentary Standards please take note.
Yes it is Nige. You want to be in public life, you automatically open up your private life for scrutiny. C'mon tell us why you were REALLY given it.
“new MPs must register all their current financial interests, and any registrable benefits (other than earnings) received in the 12 months before their election within one month of their election”. April 2026 is a very stretchy month from July 2024. www.channel4.com/news/factche...
When you are a public servant then yes the public should be allowed to demand what it is for. This is a man who accepts a pension from the European Union after making the UK leave it. Why the hell does anyone trust this weasel?
If Burnham does become PM his first job should be to instruct the Fraud Squad to fully investigate Farage and Reform
He got my hopes up by talking about the day he dies. Can't come a day too soon.
So gets £5m bung from rich person who invests in crypto, goes to see Governor of BoE, to discuss crypto, and it is not any our business - Electoral Commission might take a different view - It does not take a large leap of faith to think that's political corruption?
You’ll see lots of clips of Nigel Farage today celebrating his part in breaking Britain. Notice Nathan Gill, his right hand man, smirking and like Farage openly promoting Putin. 2 years later he went further and took bribes from Russia.
Still consorting with the ennemy, i bet. I want to consort with the EU 🇪🇺
He was on LBC and before anyone worries it was only on the Nick Ferrari show for a tummy tickle. He didn't wait around for James O'brien.
It is staggering that 10 years on, no one in Britain has a clue why Brexit happened, nor that it was orchestrated by the US Heritage Foundation, with the help of the Austrian Nazi FPÖ party, who have a contract of co-operation with Putin The aim was to destabilise the EU & strengthen the Far Right
Nigel Farage, asked about the £5mn gift from Christopher Harborne by LBC: "It's an unconditional gift. I can spend it on Ferraris if I want. That'd be entirely up to me."
Q: "Why did you say it was for personal security then?" A: "Because it was given as an unconditional gift, right? The understanding is, and you know very well, you know very well I've been physically more attacked over many years than any other politician…"
So it wasn't a payment towards his "security" as he originally claimed?
Well, that should put the story to bed, let's move on and talk about why Andy Burnham's dad hates Britain or something... 🙄
1. A reward for Brexit 2. Payment for personal security 3. An unconditional gift 4.... Nigel Farage Bung Random Excuse Generator continues to operate briskly
Which helps explain the ridiculously easy ride he gets from the LBC breakfast show host.
Anyone believing that is also in the market for a beach hut in Wolverhampton. His other excuse of not being in Politics overlooks him literally owning a Political party at the time. Future historians will write whole books on how this guy prospered.
What an arrogant entitled prick. It isn't up to Farage to decide whose business it is.
🏎️ As of now Farage should always be referred to as „Nigel Ferrari“ #NigelFerrari #NigelFarage
I checked, today, as to why the word 'spiv' keeps coming to mind.
Sally Nugent holding Farage's feet to the fire on BBC Breakfast. Well done Sally.
I’ve muted him, can’t bear it. The voice, the bobbing of the head, yuk.
If there was any justice it would have been a red hot poker to his rectum.
Oooh he’s really angry! Just turned it back on - she’s brilliant isn’t she!
Dam missed it. Glad she did.
She’ll probs get removed soon
