Sally Nugent presses Nigel Farage on BBC Breakfast over £5m gift

journalismJun 23, 202614711,649

On BBC Breakfast, presenter Sally Nugent pressed Reform UK leader Nigel Farage about a £5 million gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, who is based in Thailand. Nugent asked how much of the money Farage has spent and whether he properly declared the payment; Farage repeatedly refused to give details, saying "It's none of your business" and "You can ask me this for the next ten years." The donation is controversial because Harborne has ties to crypto and fossil fuel interests, and Farage subsequently promoted policies favorable to those sectors. The exchange matters because refusal to disclose who funded a senior political figure intensifies conflict of interest and transparency concerns ahead of future elections.

Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey has unveiled a billboard campaign across the UK to mark the 10th anniversary of the Brexit referendum today. The billboards call out Reform leader Nigel Farage’s £5 million "reward for campaigning for Brexit, whilst people across the country feel the pinch."

Lib Dem billboard of Nigel Farage laughing, captioned "Ten years on… do you feel better off?" above a Telegraph headline "Farage: I was given £5m as a reward for Brexit". Orange Lib Dem placards in the foreground.

Finally! Finally someone's taking the fight to him.

Raymond Bennett27

Good move from the LibDems. Way past time to ramp up the rhetoric.

Excellent! Thank you @eddavey.libdems.org.uk @libdems.org.uk @chulmleighed.bsky.social #Brexit

Lib Dems really are underrated. They don’t get the media attn they should BUT imo they’re stale. They need a change in leadership and more dynamism. ED has been ok, but now is their time to really push forward while Labour are in disarray. Give the punters a real alternative to the RW. Act now!

Simon Dalling 🇪🇺🇬🇱12

Farage has what they call the ‘Sadim touch’ (Midas backwards), whatever he touches turns to 💩.

John Martin🇪🇺🔶 #FBPPR 👩‍❤️‍👨+👫🐶 Rtd🚒 #GetPRDone10

A great attack on Farage but needs to be paired with an equally hard line to rejoin as soon as possible. Please don’t wait for someone else to lead on the Rejoin campaign.

Jane8

Gotta congratulate Ed Davey and the Lib Dems with this campaign; perfectly timed not just for the 10yr anniversary of the stupidest UK vote ever but heralded by the 'Brexit Party' fronted with the Fartrage who is still benefitting whilst plebs are not... 👏👏👏

Andrew Rait5

Fabulous! Putting the frog-faced grifter exactly where he belongs; grubby little spiv

J Green4

At the moment, I'd much rather have Ed Davey as Prime Minister than anyone vying for the role in the Labour Party.

Jacky4

When even the Today program on Radio 4 starts asking the hard questions about that £5m, it's clear that the shine is coming of Ffarij. He wasn't happy. My car radio comes on automatically when I start it up, and usually I hit the "mute" button without thinking. This time I left it on...

Joanna Pegum2

Glad someone's got the sense to seize the initiative

ANZAC2

Great idea my Davey! You should be leaving them up permanently, until the UK rejoins the EU...

Well done. We need more of this.

Nigel Farage has taken part in just one vote out of the 98 that have been held in the House of Commons over the last three months. That's a participation rate of around one per cent

109145d ago
Michele37

Keeping up his proud performance from when he was an MEP. I guess this is why he doesn’t class himself as a career politician because he’s never there

nearlytoolate24

That doesn’t sound like someone who really wants to be PM does it?

Dexter Crisp23

I wonder where he ranks in the "Number of Constituency Surgeries Held" list over the same period?

lukewarm24.bsky.social20

Parliamentary ethics committee MUST change this MPs must - vote in at least 40% of votes - not have second jobs - attend at least 40 weekly constituent surgeries a year. Or face a bye election!!

Dougie G19

In fairness to Nigel he has been in the pub since Euro 24 trying to finish that pint. It doesn't leave any time to attend work or anything 😬

Claire S (UK not USA)14

He's never going to be PM, it's the last job he wants, he'll cut and run before 2029.

Gareth Newnham10

In any other job he would be fired. Seriously he needs to be dragged in front of the standards committee.

John Johnston10

What was so important that he voted please?

A_Nurse__🇮🇪 🇪🇺7

The vote wasn't anything to do with crypto, was it?

Sag7

This Farage twat is a disgrace...the UK definitely does not deserve rubbish like him around 💩🤮

Vicki the cats' mother5

He will not do the job he's being paid by taxpayers to do, so this is a clear indication of what he would be like as a Prime Minister. This is a massive red flag and should be the main line of questioning for any journalist. "Why aren't you doing your job?"

Kirsty Besty4

Ineligible to be PM or an MP, IMHO! He can just FO

Hans S4

*Just checking your calculations* Yes. You’re right. This must surely be the lowest participation rate in the history of parliament?

John Henderson4

Yet he still gets 100% of his MP salary. I know he wouldn't miss it with all the gifts he receives but why should he still get paid by taxpayers when none of his constituents would if they failed to do their jobs.

Melissa Eco Zealot 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿4

Apparently according to the petition response I got, that’s perfectly fine as MPs are not employees 🤷‍♀️ so under no obligation to do the work of MPs. Explains a lot doesn’t it! 🙄

Michael Smith3

maybe the election call is so he can be defeated by the woke mob and enjoy his gifts without scrutiny

Mark Dove3

That's almost as bad as Rishi "I'm gonna be a constituency MP" Sunak. 3 or 4 votes a year from memory. Even arrested-for-rape MPs vote more than that.

Sir Garfield De Umfreville, Baronet Bywell3

It was 77 in a row he missed recently. He’s upped his game. Was he paid 5m to not vote?

AliQuack3

It's almost like he's a useless piece of shit, good for nothing.

GH 19653

He's the same as Johnson.... All the power and attention and perks without the work

Neil Swan3

Yeah, but lets have a General Election, Burnham is being undemocratic. 🙄🤔

Andy2

Isn't there a minimum participation threshold that, if he falls under it, he can be removed? I think the house of Lords has one (John Prescott fell foul of it when his health deteriorated) so surely the commons should as well.

Johann S 🇨🇮🇺🇦 ⬅️2

Is that what the £5million is for? It’s a bribe to keep him from showing up? We will find out.

Lord Knows2

More than when he was an MEP.

Mr T2

He needs to be recalled and lost his seat. I thought that there was legislation that governed the behaviour of MPs and failing to turn up and participate was one of the aspects covered by it.

milominder2

And I bet that's his PB high.

Peter Horne2

Farage had the second lowest attendance in over 20 years, appeared on Russia Today 17 times between 2010 and 2014 and was fined €35,000 for fiddling his expenses and will soon receive/steal his EU Pension for grifting.

Peter Horne2

I don’t know why anyone is worrying about Farage becoming PM. He would run a mile if he ever had to do some work. Not to say we shouldn’t worry about Reform.

Clive2

Fartage told the BBC the 5 million has nothing to do with the public the snivelling little shite

Alex J-W2

martinput2

Has anybody got an address or email for constituency enquiries? Does he even employ staff to act in his absence?

Steve2

Can't be that many surely... Waste of space

BetterThanDystopia2

He is right when he says there should be an election. It should be a bye-election for his seat as he is never in WM to represent his constituents. Hopefully there will be a recall petition once it has been found the £5m bribe should've been declared

Dennis Patton2

Too busy getting bought off. Where did the £5m go?

trottillidrop.bsky.social9

I'm sure Farage would love to take credit for Brexit but if PM David Cameron hadn't tried to silence the Tory right by calling a referendum, then none of this would have happened.

stuart1945.bsky.social8

So what are you really buying into with Farage we know he likes his financial kick backs for services rendered. And is determined to copy his man crushes destruction of the USA and bring it to England. Private Medicare and all.

aho-mastodon.bsky.social8

Why not demand that farage pay the UK the money he so gladly promised they would get...

Nigel Farage is running the bizarre line again on Today that he "wasn't in politics" when he stuffed £5 million down his trousers from a crypto-billionaire. He literally owned a political party.

84245d ago
DJ Markymarc28

What a disingenuous, treasonous weasel he is.

Hugh Stokes26

Very uncomfortable and unconvincing when asked about it. Suspect he won’t do another interview on the Today programme for some time.

'Pip' will do20

When has he not been 'in politics' over the last 2 decades...

Bob Medley14

But by sheer coincidence, he did re-enter politics like a shot after receiving the £5 million.

Barry James13

He has to report all monies starting 12 months before getting elected

Dave Merritt13

And actually, who cares if he was or wasn’t (he was)? Who the fuck gets given £5MILLION and for what? Dodgy as fuck. Man of the people my arse.

Stuart12

He's banging on about no party delivering on the promise of the 2016 referendum - it was simply " stay in or leave the EU" and we left the EU.

Andy King12

Schrödinger's c**t. Simultaneously the most consequential UK politician of his generation & also not a politician at all. Maybe we need to put him in a box & make the thought experiment real so we can finally see which one he is when the wave function collapses.

James Steel9

Hopefully enough people are starting to see through his bullshit, this is sticking and it’s going to see the party polling tank.

Liz Linnard9

Exactly. He’s been ‘in politics’ for at least thirty years and counting.

Paulb7

Farage has “been in politics” for decades, yet has managed to convince some people that he isn’t (and wasn’t)

[email protected]5

He then claimed it was for eschewing what he would have earned in the City because he was….er… doing politics as an MEP with gold plated pension & campaigning to leave the EU. So he wasn’t in politics, but it was a reward for doing politics not business. Mind blowing

darkdaysusa-uk.bsky.social. 5

When has Nigel Farage away from politics since 2010? What does appear repeatedly is Farage saying he was stepping back, not standing, or not returning to frontline politics — but never that he was not involved in politics at all.

Darren Maggs5

And then randomly asked Nick Robinson to donate his salary to charity.

Foss Mann5

He's been in politics for over 20 years.

Logatex4

Any word on the alleged Russian hack that targeted Farage / Reform, and thus British democracy?

PhilMoore4

I thought he sold it. For £5 million.

Sarah Chapman2

Few of the MPs that got elected for the first time to Parliament in 2024 had been in politics before. Certainly not at the level Farage had been for YEARS before that election. They still had to declare everything they received. That's what the rule is there for!

Simon James2

The Gandalf Method applied to politics: "Farage, Farage, Farage, Im not in politics thanks for the £5m, Farage, Farage, Farage."

Iain2

Does being an MEP not count as being in politics?

Job Polak2

Also, wasn’t the implication it was basically a bribe to keep him out of Boris his charmingly ruffled hair?

Ewan Sutherland2

Farage owned ReformUKltd, which poses as a political party.

credit to Sally Nugent who just, in normal circumstances, brought Nigel Farage's political career to an end. If polls don't plummet after this, I will be truly astonished.

"I've been physically the most attacked politician" He's been an elected politician for 27 years, in that time two MPs have been murdered.

Dexter Crisp74

"Most attacked politician in Britain" Jo Cox and David Amess might have had something to say about that, had they lived

David 🏳️‍🌈🇮🇪52

Just an observation. But he never talks to male journalists like that.

Rich42

The polls won't plummet because his support base just want to see the Farage who stands on the cliffs of dover and tells them that blue passports should equal free beer* *might not be a reform policy for all I know This won't help those of us who think he's a grifting tool mind!

Phil Simmonds33

I'm no body language expert, but, is that not a "I Surrender" gesture?

Mangy Dog25

Lol was someone slurping the ends of a milkshake cup while he was speaking? The level of brilliance if they were!

The creepy whispering ‘no one cares ‘ 🤢🤢🤢

David Ross20

"I have been physically the most attacked and endangered politician in Britian for well over a decade" He trots this out every time he's asked about the £5M She lets that go without query. Why didn't she say "Really? Jo Cox and David Amess were murdered"

Michael ᚋᚔᚉᚆᚓᚐᚂ15

Sadly his base, just like Trump's, don't see anything wrong with grifting. They know they would do likewise if they had the chance; and far from being upset about it, seem to be impressed with it.

Magnus Sutherland14

The most attacked and endangered politicians over the last 10 years, after insisting he wasn't in politics when he pocketed the £5m Fair play being endangered by a milk shake, is £5m enough, what if there are chocolate sprinkles?

cath555.bsky.social13

Props to Sally, this is a pretty rare sight for a BBC journalist interviewing Farage. Accountability for everyone else, but not our Nige!

MsBlueWednesday13

He hates being challenged, doesn’t he, and particularly by a woman imo. Hair-trigger temper that anyone should dare to question his Farageship 🙄

Shelly13

I wish he wasn't part of anything we have to think about any more.

tofueating1.bsky.social12

"The most attacked and endangered MP" ... what a load of shite. Diane Abbott receives more death threats and racist abuse. Any female MP gets more abuse than Farage.

Gaz12

If he tells her how much of the money he's spent, he'll be in danger? If that isn't a tacit admission that he's spent the money on things he really shouldn't be spending the money on, what kind of fucked up logic is that supposed to be?

RupertDandy11

Sally Nugent where did that come from ? Warms the cockles of my dark black heart

Andy Gait9

"No one cares" Oh really, Nigel. You feckin' sure about that, are you?

I fucking care. £5m bloody quid!!!!

Wilko Wichmann7

In a sane world Sally Nugent would immediately replace that snivelling weasel's arse Mason as the BBC's political editor.

Pete Cabanna5

“Most attacked”? He’s had a couple of drinks thrown at him. £5m is a lot to spend on dry cleaning.

Patrick Andrews5

James O’Brien’s career highlight was his interview with Farage. Perhaps this is Sally Nugent’s. It isn’t difficult to expose him as a dodgy geezer.

Trouble is, his supporters only hear one thing from him, “immigration.” Nothing else matters.

Farage, the most abused and endangered political figure in the UK? Jo Cox and David Amess were victims of the right wing rhetoric Farage and his cronies have been poisoning the UK with for years. Just saying...

Stephen Gurrey2

Oh how we love to see him wilt under the heat of minimal political scrutiny. He can't answer the question that just won't go away.

Peter O’Hanraha-hanrahan2

This is why he goes to ground when there are questions around his conduct

Sara2

How can anyone seriously believe that someone gave him £5 million with no strings attached and no expectation of something in return?

David Norris2

He compares the £5m to the journalists salary, as he did with Nick Robinson. So it is payment for services? Is it taxable income?

David Bale2

‘If I’ve given it to charity…’

marshk.bsky.social2

I thought she was brilliant and put many of the so called star political pundits to shame. Kuenssberg, Mason et al should be made to watch it to see how you deal with the slimy grifter

They should but there are too many people who will vote for him whatever he does. Has any journalist pushed back on the most physically attacked MP stuff in light of 2 actual murders of MPs since 2016? Not suggesting Sally Nugent had to, she did a good job here, but I've not heard anyone.

The BBC Breakfast interview with Nigel Farage is worth watching back, in part to see just how grumpy - and patronising – he gets when asked about the £5m gift. "It's literally none of your business," he tells Sally Nugent when she asks how much of it has been spent and on what.

46745d ago
Peter Walker 100

Farage's political gift was in part that he was the one who might be fun to share a pint with. He doesn't look fun now. He also, very clearly, finds it harder being interviewed/questioned by women, and I think broadcasters are catching on to this.

tonyd202425

I don't watch much breakfast time tv but #BBCBreakfast presenter #SallyNugent has become one of the Corporations better interviewers. This morning she was taking no guff from Old Frog Face #NigelFarage. I would suggest her BBC colleague #ChrisMason watches a recording of that interview and learns.

Mark Stamp22

He does seem to get more angry with female journalists or is it me?

Sarah Chapman18

Didn't he stand up in Parliament (on one of the rare occasions he attended) to have a go at Starmer during "Freebiegate" to sneer about how he had paid for his own suit? Imagine what Starmer could have come back with if the £5m gift had been declared?

josephstrummered.bsky.social18

It isn't up to Farage to decide it's none of our business for a start.

JR10

Loathsome as he is, I'm kind of fascinated by the tensions that exist in him: he likes to sound statesmanlike, but is often wildly petty; he likes to project confidence but is quickly pushed to petulance; he has a thing for authenticity but, my god, he's so disingenuous every time he speaks.

When he said "I wonder how they would relate to your salary" I really wish her response had been " it's in the public domain Mr Farage and I also pay tax on it, have you paid any tax on that five MILLION pounds Mr Farage, the man of the people". He's a snake oil salesman!

randomsporadicproj.bsky.social24

Just refer to him as "Five Million Farage" from now on. It'll stick.

Brian Liddy23

Wow! That’s some blink rate there! And I’d say those repeated *violent* jabs of his head definitely reveal his contempt for the interviewer!

Jolly Confused18

Well done Sally Nugent. Far more guts than Laura Kuennsberg and Chris Mason.

midlander18

My god - the death threats Jess Phillips gets from Musk’s rage farm, Starmer’s house firebombed by his mate in the Kremlin, Jo Cox dead from rw terror & here’s Lord Haw Haw claiming to be the real victim & talking to her like Trump talks to women journalists. He wants locking up for incitement.

Steve (he/him)11

Spiteful, thin-skinned victimhood. The measure of the "man".

Kieran11

Jo Cox might disagree that him getting a milkshake thrown at him makes him the 'most attacked' politician.

Brian Moore10

This is really good. More please!

agr25.bsky.social10

No one cares he says. I can give him 5 million reasons why I care.

Melissa Eco Zealot 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿10

So he says we don’t care (which of course we do) therefore no enquiry/investigation is necessary. I see Reform’s carpet is just as lumpy as Tories and Labour.

Kev🇬🇧🍺9

Oh he is rattled. So rattled he didn't even mention immigration and that has to be a first. He is really banking, sorry for the pun, on the PSC letting him off because he simply has no answers that won't make things even worse. The wide mouthed frog might go incommunicado again after that grilling

big-cat-diesel.bsky.social8

Out knocking on doors!!! I thought he was in mortal danger!!!

God-Emperor Tsunami 💙 #FBPE #BLM #GTTO8

I guess I must be "no one" because I CARE!

notjason101.bsky.social8

He said it was for his security then he said it was a gift then he said it was a reward for all the hard work he did for Brexit. A shame Sally didn't ask him about the reward bit.

deebeegeebee.bsky.social7

Yes, a decent interview by Sally Nugent, unfortunately Ed Balls threw ‘softballs’ at Nigelnas he repeatedly called him!

Travellersuzy7

He hates being scrutinized but being scrutinized by a woman just flips him over the edge 😂

big-cat-diesel.bsky.social6

He has a particular way with the lady interviewers. He sort of, speaks to them like shit. And his fans love it, cos they undoubtedly do the same.

Tamson Facts 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿6

Laura K should be ditched for Sally N

Traveloads6

He rattles on about being attacked. Other than having the grave danger of a milkshake chucked over him, when was he attacked?

Paul5

So Nigel you are admitting to being a politician for the last 10 years but you were not a politician for the few seconds it took to take the money, have I got that right??

epicurious.bsky.social5

Farage was asking his interviewer what she earned. If he’s treating his £5m quid as “earnings,” then we should be asking what he earned it for.

Paul Fletcher4

At last someone challenged his nonsense, chapeau Sally Nugent.

John Dalton - brain marinated in woke sauce. They/them4

How many times have properties relating to Farridge been firebombed?

jed-murphy.bsky.social3

This is the kind of fearless interview we need more of…

Cris in Kbh3

The response of the entitled bully who never left school…. I’m not a violent man but I’d like to see him get a good kicking….

kmortimer.bsky.social3

We care. Tell us about the £5 million, who bought the Clacton house ? How many surgeries have you held in Clacton? How many times have you attended Parliament?

Kath M Cymru3

He claims zero personal expenses? That's because he doesn't actually show up to do any work so doesn't accrue any!

Bollieboy3

He needs to be asked this at the start by every interviewer at every interview until he actually answers the questions. Could go on for years but so has his corruption.

centeristdad.bsky.social2

I care and I think I am not alone

Frank2

He’s such a loathsome w⚓️ It’s ridiculous How anyone could think he is PM material. Just like Trump, when they can’t answer a question, they attack. Vile people.

acearmy.bsky.social2

Corruption is all he knows

Neil2

Laughed too much when he said "I will need protection until the day..i..die. And that's what I intend to do".

Harry2

He looks well old Nige, tanned, been to sunny Clacton?

JT2

He really is a thin skinned, tetchy, whiny little so and so. Sadly, NF didn’t have a triumphal return to the media on this historic day of celebration of Brexshit, even Nick Ferrari wasn’t happy with his crap today. Fetch me my smallest violin.

bella34.bsky.social2

‘Most attacked MP’. I think Diane Abbott might like a word. He changes his story every time !

Merry Christmas, as in the other place.2

Farage is a Pubic servant we have the right to know where the money was from and what this money was really for.

Sheila O’Flanagan20

What is the UK’s obsession with giving this man a platform?

debnicktom.bsky.social12

I think the little scroat is terrified of Andy. But after the Tories switched leaders like they were soiled underwear no one can seriously demand a GE.

Jeremy Wall12

Robinson got under his skin with questions on the £5m bung. He didn't like it.

PastaPete8

Squelched out of his sewer to spew his lies which #R4today nod along to, as instructed by Robbie Gibb. Memo to Burnham: sack Nandy and then sack Gibb and other Bozo appointees IMMEDIATELY. If Starmer had done that we might be in a different place

Eddie7

Not once did he ask for a general when the tory party had their 4 changes but hey.

Jago20127

"I'll tell you who doesn't have a mandate, Mr NF. MPs who leave the party they were elected to represent and defect to a party with a completely different manifesto. Do you know anyone like that?"

Mojumi6

#SallyNugent on #BBCBreakfast actually savaged him. I’d hope #R4today were as tough.

Máirtin Ó’Caoiṁ (O’Keeffe)4

Hilarious to hear. Surprised he wasn’t asked who elected him to leadership of his party & who elected his spokesperson for Home Affairs. He got a wee bit aggressive with his “none of your business” about his £5m gift from his man friend who lives in Thailand.

Shanchat 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴‍☠️3

The BBC needs investigated into why the frog faced waste of DNA is given so much air time.

FrankHerbertIYKYH3

BBC (Bought & Biased Commentary) said what? Quelle surprise ;)

Rabid Cormorant2

Farage couldn't even form a govt tomorrow if he had to. He should pipe the fuck down. Which goes without saying, as usual.

Jop2

Cancel your TV licence, politely inform them that you are doing so because of their biased coverage of Faragesky and his dodgy millions

Nigel Farage says £5m gift from crypto billionaire is ‘not any of your business’

19545d ago
Seawied40

This guy has such a punchable face.

Roo37

It is everyone’s business, he is an elected MP (unfortunately) and is accountable.

josefkaf.bsky.social22

Why are all right wing populists so corrupt? All of them. Do people sleep walk through life? Isn’t it clear what their true agenda is?

Assembled Person19

He doesn’t get to tell us what our business is.

martinput13

Oh, so his excuses didn't satisfy the media. So now it's aggressive refusal to discuss it further? Really does love following Trump's playbook doesn't he? When does he face Parliamentary Standards? Love to be a fly on that wall!

The Singular Malt 🥃😻🐧13

He effectively equated it with Nick Robinson's salary on #R4Today. A salary is payment for services rendered, so it's not a smart move to equate that with what he claims is an unencumbered gift. Parliamentary Standards please take note.

danielblock.bsky.social13

He's so rattled by this. Keep up the pressure. All journalists should only ask him about this. All of the witch-hunts around Keir's beers, Angela Rayner's taxes etc. and this is FIVE MILLION POUNDS.

therealadambeck.bsky.social12

He would sure as shootin' make it his business if a £5m gift went to literally any other MP. Bloody duplicitous git

josephstrummered.bsky.social11

It isn't for Farage to say whether or not it's anyone else's business. He's an elected politician. If he doesn't like scutiny, resign and fuck off forever.

Lee Thumwood10

If it's "for security" why isn't he holding constituency surgeries? Baffles me how anyone could even consider voting for that grifter! We're billIIIllions worse off because of Brexit!

Scoop788

This is one more proof that this man is not fit for the job he’d like to have. When a politician receives 5 million of GBP it is a public matter.

DavidxRose6

Everything he does, as a prospective PM, is in the national interest. The fact that he doesn't understand this, alone, makes him unfit for high office.

Claudio6

Didn’t he literally own Reform UK company Limited in 2024 when he took £5m unconditional gift from a foreign based crypto billionaire? But clearly, just being the major shareholder in Reform UK Ltd means he wasn’t in front line politics then so there was obviously no quid pro quo. I think - no?

nroberts67.bsky.social6

Just like Trump the law doesn’t apply to him in his eyes.

Donald Coppen6

He was careful with his words in saying it was a gift when he wasn’t in politics at the time. What that doesn’t exclude is that it was a gift (bung) for him to go back into politics by standing for Parliament.

singasaint.bsky.social5

But it isn’t Nige, you total chancer. What was paid for with this VERY generous gift 🤬

Peter Sharples5

He always says this when it’s about him (but the opposite when it’s someone else).

Steve Doidge5

I despise this man. I shouldn't waste my energy on him but the BBC had had him on the news this morning and I was shouting at the TV as i turned it over. He is just despicable.

Calèsiano5

A cunning stunt as usual, his usual blend of hypocrisy, lies and bluster. Somebody has to bring him down from his high horse so that the world sees the back of him.

Keredwh4

Yes it is Nige. You want to be in public life, you automatically open up your private life for scrutiny. C'mon tell us why you were REALLY given it.

𝚖𝚘𝚔𝚞 𓅃4

there are no 'private matters' for a political figure; full transparency or be removed from office (not that the people of clacton would notice)

Hormuz Moose in a Caboose4

That probably sounded better in his head - in the original Russian.

Apparently this4

As an elected MP it is absolutely the business of the public, and the parliamentary committee for standards. He should be hauled in front of that committee and required to account for this money and face possible sanctions.

mqb2766.bsky.social3

“new MPs must register all their current financial interests, and any registrable benefits (other than earnings) received in the 12 months before their election within one month of their election”. April 2026 is a very stretchy month from July 2024. www.channel4.com/news/factche...

Neil Bowen3

If Burnham does become PM his first job should be to instruct the Fraud Squad to fully investigate Farage and Reform

John Howell3

So gets £5m bung from rich person who invests in crypto, goes to see Governor of BoE, to discuss crypto, and it is not any our business - Electoral Commission might take a different view - It does not take a large leap of faith to think that's political corruption?

Paula King3

When you are a public servant then yes the public should be allowed to demand what it is for. This is a man who accepts a pension from the European Union after making the UK leave it. Why the hell does anyone trust this weasel?

Carl2

He got my hopes up by talking about the day he dies. Can't come a day too soon.

Steve Gilbert2

Time to seize his assets and those of his billionaire backers to pay for the devastating cost of Brexit. It's the patriotic thing to do.
