Genndy Tartakovsky to make Conan the Barbarian animated series
Genndy Tartakovsky's Conan the Barbarian was announced at the Annecy festival, with Cartoon Network Studios producing for Prime Video. The official logline casts a battle-hardened Conan who defies gods and even death to save his love from a dark sorcery, and early responses have zeroed in on Queen of the Black Coast as an obvious first inspiration. Viewers are tying the project to Tartakovsky's Primal, arguing that its raw, storyboard-driven action is a perfect stylistic fit. Others are reimagining Conan as the literate, theologically curious figure from the comics and loudly hoping a Red Sonja story will follow.
Genndy Tartakovsky’s ‘Conan the Barbarian’ is officially in the works for Prime Video. Cartoon Network Studios will produce.
Aside from "prime video" this all sounds awesome.
lmao Genndy is so fucking cool!! 3 seasons of his own savage barbarian creation then goes straight to Conan. Thanks for being a real one still Genndy! I do hope someday he can go back to Unicorn though
Can Ron Perlman voice him? Please? "TASTE CROM NOW!"
I AM SO HERE FOR THIS
Sounds like a spiritual successor to Samurai Jack in this case. If only it wasn't on Prime Video given Jeff Bezos' repulsive influence...!
I know it's petty, but 3 years ago a really big asshole I used to work with launched a crowdfund for a Conan-style sword & sorcery comic while I prepared to relaunch Conan at Titan. 3 years later, he still hasn't finished or fulfilled that project. Conan the Barbarian #32 arrives in stores tomorrow
This is a person who, back in the day, told me to my face that I didn't have the "killer instinct to succeed" and that I'd never make a name for myself unless I worked with him. Thankfully, I went my own way.
“Living well is the best revenge.”
Something about revenge and living well?
It's okay to be petty when it's fully justified.
I see some people saying that living well is the best revenge. I disagree. I think what is best is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, to hear the lamentations of de women.
I’ve been told the same thing too and it’s always wrapped in a thick layer of sexism. It’s always just incompetent people trying to justify their unlike-ability.
I’ve known a handful of people like that. Turns out that “killer instinct” isn’t worth nearly as much as getting shit done.
Mail him the giant 62+ issue Zub Conan omni in the future. And be like...
Had someone like that when I worked for a recruiting company. In the 18 months he worked there, he never made a single placement.
We're all petty at one time or another. Some people deserve that pettiness.
Which current comic artists would you like to see draw a Conan the Barbarian story for Savage Sword of Conan?
Dan McDaid. He did this Conan commission for me, and I'd like to see him do a story.
BILQUIS EVELY Might harken back to early BWS or Alcala.
Selfishly I would nominate myself!😅
Daniel Warren Johnson, Katsuya Terada, Kei Zama & Das Pastoras. I'd love to see those artists take a stab drawing anything related to Conan.
Lee Weeks … just a hunch / feeling that it might have that 70’s Conan feel to it
I want non-obvious fantasy guys to have that fun. Michal Lark, who kills on Lazarus. Or David Aja, who kills on everything.
How about a tween or teen edition drawn by @matthewdowsmith.bsky.social ? His tween books are fun!
Is Jordi Bernet still considered current? If so, then him. 😀
Juan José Ryp These pages are from Wolfskin by Warren Ellis
Goran Parlov Juan Alberto Hernández Valerio Giangiordiano Patric Reynolds RM Guera Joe Bocardo Juan José Ryp Frank Quitely Mike Perkins Staz Johnson And these are just to begin with.
Haven't seen his stuff in a bit and I am sure his art has evolved since, but I loved Chris Mooneyham on Five Ghosts-a very Joe Kubert vibe to his stuff, raw, dynamic and perfect for adventure/horror mix that is a lot of REH's stuff.
Javier Rodriguez would be a very different take on Conan
Eric Powell Mike Mignola (who apparently retired, but somehow keeps releasing material)
Juan Alberto Hernández comes to mind as an absolute must as he worked in your Breckinridge Elkins story, and also illustrated a Conan novel by Tim Lebbon
Daniel Warren Johnson; for a fun curveball, a crunchy early TMNT black n white style Eastman/Laird tale.
