Sources warn Russia may be preparing a provocation in Baltic states or Poland

newsJun 26, 202614505

Officials from two NATO eastern-flank countries warn the Kremlin may stage a provocation in the Baltic states or Poland to test alliance cohesion as Russia comes under growing pressure from Ukraine. Intelligence cited by those officials says the Kremlin could use a hybrid attack such as missile strikes, drone attacks or a false-flag operation rather than a full-scale invasion. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski publicly warned about the risk that Moscow could create a pretext for escalation against Western countries. Latvian intelligence has separately signaled concern about possible provocations in the region. Western sources link the risk to Ukraine’s campaign of long-range attacks on targets near Moscow and St Petersburg, which they say is increasing pressure on the Kremlin. Officials say NATO is picking up intelligence on the threat, raising questions about alliance readiness and the potential to influence Western support for Ukraine.

‼️ The Guardian: Moscow may soon resort to a hybrid attack to test NATO unity and the US's readiness to defend allies. This is not a full-scale invasion, but missile strikes, drone attacks… The Baltic states believe that the Kremlin is trying to force the West to reduce support for Ukraine.
