Texas Approves Required K, 12 Reading List Including Bible Passages
NEWS: The Texas State Board of Education just voted to require public schools to use a state-approved reading list that includes Bible stories for more than 5 million students
Texas state board of indoctrination. I hope someone sues.
Sounds a bit unconstitutional to me.
So it will be in the fiction section of their libraries,no?
The country is going backwards at an alarming rate. 💀
Unconstitutional. Sue the fuck out of them. The only thing that’s there are more of than guns in America are churches. Don’t need that in our schools.
The Bible should be taught alongside of Greek and Norse mythology then.
At this point, I'm concerned I'm experiencing masochistic tendencies just by reading the news
This will be the first Bible lesson taught to Texas children ...
The Texiban is going to tell you which flavor of Christianity you have to choke down. This worked SO well in Europe, and everyone was thrilled with the boot of theocracy on their neck.
They'll be sued for not including the Torah or Koran, if not for separation of church & state. The next administration could also choose to be punative about it, if they have SISU. 🇫🇮
Starting in 2030, all public school students in Texas will be required to read passages from the Bible in class
Egregious violation of church/state separation
They know this is how they get Atheists right?
Do Song of Solomon, that's sexy time
Teachers need to include passages from other religions alongside them, then. This is nuts.
No kids, we can’t feed you, but we will teach you to be afraid and obedient.
Texas and Florida in a dead heat for the most dystopian award
I've love to tell you one day how the religious Right has hated public schools since desegregation, and that the pushing of homeschooling, school choice, vouchers, and (Christian) Bible teaching has been at the forefront of their racist plans. @kevinmkruse.bsky.social has a nice book on it
This is how you build brittle evangelicals whose faith implodes the first time reality challenges it. This is not how you build life-long Christians at ease in their faith. But as a non-theist: welcome, Deconstructing young ones. It’ll be hard, but it’s worth it to walk away. Hate is absurd.
I have some suggestions! Ezekiel 23:11-21 is great!
they hit everybody with the "sharia" buzzword to catch your attention/fury, then delivered this uppercut. and people keep falling for the BS every time.
I will teach both my children to refuse and tell their teacher to go fuck themselves
I’m just trying to wrap my head around making high schoolers read the Book of Genesis, specifically the Adam and Eve parts. The Bible is a legitimate literary source, but not when used like that! Those poor kids are going to come out of the Texas school system permanently screwed over.
look, i think it is incredibly important to understand chunks of the bible as foundational to western culture, literature, and philosophy, especially in how interpreting it got us to here. But this ain't it, padre.
This is VERY bad btw
It’ll turn out to be the entire script for Pulp Fiction.
The child fuckers are trying to force their demonic religion on people
"Texas is... so far the only state to mandate the reading of direct religious texts. Students will analyze around a dozen Bible passages and stories, from David and Goliath in second grade to the Book of Job in tenth grade." Super...
“Analyze” is probably not what they’ll actually be asked to do
The GOP should start with Matthew 25:31-46.
Are the Beatitudes (Blessed are the Peacemakers, etc) on this list? Or is it strictly Old Testament Christianity that they are pushing?
The weirdos that poop their pants over Sharia law love jizzing their religion over the rest of us.
This is, well, . . . "Jesus" I guess is the appropriate response. It's that much tougher knowing that the professional attire of public officials means looking like they're headed to a girls weekend in Park City.
Hey, shouldn’t Moms for Liberty be fighting this tooth-and-nail as big government attack on parents’ rights??? Oh, okay, right… 🙀
At least we know that the 5th Circuit and Supreme Court will impartially and evenhandedly apply Mahmoud to protect religious rights of ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ba ha ha ha ha sorry it will just say people who object are anti-Christian bigots.
This will not end the way they think it will.
*rolls up with the Song of Songs* HELLO. I HAVE SOME BIBLE FOR YOU.
My mom once explained Christianity to me as people who take a fandom super seriously and choose to live their lives by it. Like Potterheads. Or Trekkies. Or Avatards. She was raised Pentecostal.
The good news is they don't do the reading anyway
It’s a choice to put “first” in the headline. It’s a choice not to point out it’s obviously unconstitutional. Anyway, I’m not worried about this. Studying the bible in college classes is what made me an atheist.
Great! Now do the Koran and the Bagavadgita !
There is a real argument to be made that you can’t study English-language literature without basic familiarity with the KJV. But they aren’t using the KJV so this is just nonsense.
As a practicing Xtian, I condemn this SH1T. NO STATE-SANCTION RELIGION IN ANY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. I am despising my country more & more each day. Sorry, Ancestors Angelou & Baldwin. I CANNOT love a country that still oppresses Black people & in the same breath, forces Christianity down our throats.
What's the betting they won't cover Matthew 7:21-23? Evangelicals hate that bit. Also, David didn't kill Goliath - Elhanan did. Stolen valour.
Texas makes Bible passages required reading for millions of public school students Critics say mandating Bible reading for over 5m students breaches constitutional separation of church and state www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
No way this makes it thru the courts...clearly against the constitution. You want to study and live by it, so be it. Stop forcing it on everyone. That's why people left England and Europe for that matter, to come here to begin with you fucking dolts...
that's the thing, though - it's not just about separation of church and state. it's about forcing a specific worldview on kids who might not share it
But it was written by the Roman Empire - as a geopolitical instrument of populace control ??
They should start by making all state officials abide by at least a few of the 10 Commandments.
This was common throughout the South into the 90s and beyond. Bible thumping school boards skirted the Establishment Clause by requiring "Bible as Literature" classes. I had to suffer through one in the 80s.
