Armed Forces Day, UK parades and tributes

cultureJun 27, 202654313

The UK observed Armed Forces Day with local parades, flag-raisings and community tributes while Kensington Palace released unseen footage of the Princess of Wales and Prince George visiting the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby. The Princess of Wales has served as Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby since August 2023, and the palace video came from the pair's visit to the base. Towns from Burntwood, Aldershot and Cleethorpes held flag ceremonies, services and family-friendly events including military vehicle convoys, marching bands and parkrun appearances. Veterans’ charities such as Combat Stress were highlighted at local gatherings, and schools and community groups marked the day alongside cadets, serving personnel and reservists. Elected representatives attended flag-raising ceremonies and called on businesses and organisations to sign the Armed Forces Covenant to support serving personnel, veterans and their families. The combination of national royal footage and grassroots events underscored both ceremonial recognition at military sites and widespread local commemorations across Britain.
