Hornets trade Miles Bridges to Suns for Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale

sportsJun 28, 202642938

The Charlotte Hornets are trading Miles Bridges, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale and a 2033 first-round pick. The move continues Charlotte's offseason overhaul after the team nearly reached the NBA playoffs last season. The deal removes the last player from the 2018 draft class who remained with his original team, as Bridges was the final such player. Financially, Phoenix increases its salary-cap flexibility, moving from about $5 million under the second-apron hard cap to about $11.3 million under it by swapping Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale for Miles Bridges. Charlotte maintains a roughly $40.8 million trade exception and sits about $41.8 million below the luxury tax line following the swap. Reporting on the trade included confirmation from multiple league sources and news outlets with the full pick and pick-year details matching the announced exchange.

I wrote about what it would mean for the Suns to trade for Miles Bridges 2 and a half years ago when these rumors first started popping up. My feelings haven’t really changed on the matter:

“Sports — and the entertainment industry at large — are big on second chances. Or, someone famous laying low long enough for people to forget the reprehensible things they’ve been accused of.”

This is the only thing you need to read about the Suns trading for Miles Bridges.

I normally clip out the portion of pieces I read that hit me the hardest. Gerald’s words hit so hard that you need to read them yourself. Thank you, once again, for this.

Disgusting move by the suns. Shameful for all involved in the decision.

WAY bigger than basketball., indeed. Glad he isn't a Nugget, but mad he's still in the league.

Gerald on point with it here as always

Hammertime, mostly Suns3

I believe firmly in 2nd (and 3rd and 4th) chances. But agree w GB that accountability doesn’t happen on the court (or not only there). Still gonna root for the team but it’s fair to say we’ve formally lost any claim to “ethical hoops.”

If video had leaked of Miles Bridges abusing the mother of his children, Adam Silver and the NBA would have moved at light speed to ban him. Absent video footage, the league expects us to get over it. Screw that. He shouldn't be in the NBA. And no, Suns fans, you don't have to make excuses for him.

Yeah I’m going full in on the Jazz this season. The Suns spent all this time talking about how character matters and rebuilt the goodwill after the KD shitshow ended with a fun, young team that overachieved all season only to piss it all away by trading for an (alleged) woman beater. Fuck this.
