Former NFL running back Chris Johnson told Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan that he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2025 and revealed the condition publicly at age 39. Johnson, who starred with the Tennessee Titans and also played for the Arizona Cardinals, said ALS has left his body unable to cooperate though "I still think the same. I still dream. I still love my family," and "I want people to know I am still me." He described rapid progression over about a year, going from picking up his seven-year-old daughter to now needing assistive technology to communicate, including an eye-tracking speech-generating device based on recordings of his voice. The announcement recalled Johnson's on-field distinction as one of the fastest players and as a member of the small group of backs who rushed for more than 2,000 yards in a season. Johnson made the disclosure in an exclusive GMA interview aired on national television, bringing wider attention to his condition and current care needs.
