Former NFL running back Chris Johnson told Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at age 39. Johnson said he was diagnosed in 2025 and used an eye-tracking computer during the GMA interview to communicate, adding, “I still think the same. I still dream. I still love my family. My body just doesn’t cooperate.” The interview noted that Johnson, who played for the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals, has lost abilities he previously had, including basic hand function. Johnson said, “I want people to know I am still me,” and framed the announcement as a way to share his condition publicly. Major outlets including ESPN and USA Today have carried the interview and his disclosure.
