Police scanner audio obtained by NBC News shows paramedics responded to a report of a “cardiac arrest” for an “unconscious” person at a known address for Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on the same day his office disclosed he had been admitted to the hospital on June 14. McConnell’s office has not disclosed the reason for the hospitalization and referred NBC to a June 22 statement saying McConnell is “still working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters” as he continues his recovery but “will not be voting this week.” The office’s June 14 statement said only that “Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care.” Other outlets reported McConnell, 84, was found unconscious and was given CPR. McConnell has not been seen since the hospitalization and has faced multiple health issues in recent years, including a recent hospitalization this year for flu-like symptoms, a concussion after tripping three years ago, and a fractured shoulder in 2019. Punchbowl News also reported on the paramedic response.
