MJF retains AEW World Title, Kenny Omega sets up Beach Break challenge

entertainmentJul 2, 202646607

On the July 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF retained the AEW World Championship against Mark Briscoe in a violent, back-and-forth match that grew out of Briscoe earning a title shot at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 28. Briscoe hit multiple Froggy Bows, two Tope Con Hilo dives, a Cutthroat Driver and an attempted Jay Driller on exposed concrete and through a table, but MJF ultimately countered a Jay Driller attempt, hit an Alabama Slam and finished with the Heatseeker to score the pin. After the match MJF attacked Briscoe with the Dynamite Diamond Ring before Kenny Omega ran in to make the save. Omega challenged MJF to a match later that night, which MJF declined, then offered Omega a title shot next week with one condition: if Omega loses he can never challenge for the AEW World Championship again. AEW advertised that MJF vs Kenny Omega for the AEW World Title will be held at the Beach Break episode next Wednesday under that lose-and-never-challenge stipulation.
