Sam Altman floats giving US government a 5% stake in AI firms
The proposal being discussed by OpenAI and Trump administration officials purportedly calls for all major AI companies to grant the government a 5% stake.
So they can steal from the Treasury to keep solvent when this bubble bursts They see the writing on the wall and want taxpayers to fund the collapse It's always the tax payers
We don’t need a piece of the company, just tax them at 70%
He has to get his cut
From the Milwaukee Independent: “Trump’s regime, while not ideologically leftist, has enacted a series of state interventions and structural controls that in practical terms resemble the tools used by communist governments to direct and absorb national economic activity.”
Government but make it a mob shakedown
So, this is naked corporate fascism. Why in the PfUCK would any fiscal moderate EVER support the state's ownership of private capital interests like this?
“OpenAI has discussed giving a 5 per cent stake to the US government as the $852bn AI start-up seeks to clear political obstacles by securing financial buy-in from the Trump administration.”
The secret word is… “bribe.”
Giving us 5% of a company that's $27 billion in the red is like offering up your berth on the Titanic right after it hits the iceberg.
Yo dog I heard you needed a bailout so we bailed you out before the bailout so you can get a bailout on top of your bailout
That's a hell of a grift, offering up 5% of an entirely fictitious valuation. Would that translate in reality to being on the hook for a portion of their huge and growing debt?
Translation: We're burning cash with no end in sight. I need to do this so I can tell investors that the Feds will bail us out when things go south.
once the regulator is also a shareholder, who exactly is overseeing whom? a 5% stake in an $852bn company gives the state 42 billion reasons never to slow this thing down.
They want the government entangled so you feel that your personal survival is tied up with AI the same way that they've convinced so many people that you can't boycott or divest because you'll be hurting some teacher's pension. Recognizing this scam is the only thing that will keep us all alive.
Who wants a 5% stake in a useless money pit?
good start but why not make it 100 per cent of all companies
I don’t wish a bad life on anyone, but this guy should be forced to give his assets away, and be limited to living in a shack and working minimum wage for the rest of his life
Giant Environment destroying rape culture theft machine company considers paying off giant environment destroying rapist thieving president
Translation: Altman knows the bubble will burst and wants a trillion-dollar federal bailout.
If you got US $825BN in the bank you aren't a fucking start up, you're a wage thieving-tax evading-protection racket.
it's not nearly the point, but any outlet calling OpenAI a "start-up" is starting a barrel fire with its credibility
The ultimate con is to get the federal government to pay for your failure
National ownership of private industry, you say?
"The proposed arrangement would involve other US AI companies handing over a similar stake, although it is not clear if the other labs would be willing to do so."
I'm sure this will change people's minds on AI
why do they always object to wealth taxes if they'll offer 5% state socialism to the first fascist they finance
gosh golly i love tech socialism
I catch a whiff of desperation
Are we still calling OpenAI a start-up? What a scrappy little company.
Oh so now they're just openly commiting scams and fraud
it’s perfect that the Trump administration would own the means of producing useless slop
Estamos colectivizando los medios de producción. ¡Alabado sea el camarada Trumpov!
slop, but make it centrally planned
imagine owning a company so shitty that you want to hand a portion of it over to a sundowning racist who thought sean duffy would make a good transportation secretary because he was once on a reality tv show called road rules
Take 5% of SpaceX lol
www.cnn.com/2026/07/02/b... OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is reportedly discussing handing the Trump administration a 5% stake in the company amid growing government scrutiny of artificial intelligence firms.
OpenAI suggested to the Trump admin that the government take a 5% stake in OpenAI www.ft.com/content/7c80...
I wouldn't be surprised if this 5% end up being directly to the president...
So America is going to go full Russia business wise, and everyone will be expected to pretend that this is not corruption.
non-expert steelman — giving the government a stake in its success of the company, which is good for AI and society and opposing side — it gives a stake in the *company* not the technology. Taxes encourage the gov’t to create a fertile economy for growth, and also spread the wealth
If we also take a 5% stake in Google, and a 5% stake in Anthropic, and a 5% stake in X.AI, and a 5% stake in Meta... It might not be so bad. I do think they should take far more. And it should eventually include all the robotics companies, and even these space commercialization companies too.
More corruption. www.theguardian.com/technology/2... OpenAI ‘in early talks to give 5% stake to US government’
Yep, all the overpaid tech parasites are trying to embed in the government so they can grift off the public. This is especially pronounced in Defence Dept.
Sure... When your business cannot ever be profitable, embed it in government so they can't do without it andxare forced to keep you from going broke. This is a prepared Backdoor Bailout. A shameful use of taxpayer dollars. AI is trash.
I’m going to stop you there Sam I would like to propose a simple framework: a US-led international forum that establishes accepted standards, provides expert and impartial analysis of capabilities and risks. as.ft.com/r/beb30353-7... Sam Altman: This is how we can make AI safe for everyone
US-led impartial advice. He should have run that through Chat because it’s mindblowingly stupid. But then again, maybe he can be his own best customer for ‘metered intelligence’, seems he needs it.
"US-led" ? WHAT ? So corrupt, incompetent and constantly changing ? No, keep the US out of it - and the EU should NEVER have to deal with the bailouts as all these firms go bankrupt
