John Brennan sues DOJ to preserve probe records

newsJul 3, 2026174,222

Former CIA Director John Brennan sued the Trump administration on Wednesday, asking a federal judge in the District of Columbia to order the Justice Department to preserve records he says he will need to prove any prosecution of him is vindictive. The complaint names Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, FBI Director Kash Patel, the Director of the CIA, the Director of National Intelligence, the U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida, and Donald Trump among the defendants. Brennan says he is a subject of a grand jury investigation in the Southern District of Florida that targets many officials involved in the Russia 2016 inquiry and that he expects he may be indicted. He quotes an order by Judge Boasberg to allege the administration has adopted a policy of using criminal process to punish perceived adversaries and asks the court to preserve communications and materials that could show prosecutorial vindictiveness. Brennan frames his request against his record of more than 33 years of government service and his tenure as CIA Director from March 8, 2013, to January 20, 2017.

John Brennan didn't wait to get indicted. He sued first—to force the government to preserve records he'll need to defend himself. The complaint alleges judge shopping, forum shopping & a direct presidential demand for indictment. Worth your full attention. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...
