UK agency uncovers international network of drug‑facilitated rape
The abject horror of realising that the Gisèle Pelicot case might be the tip of an iceberg. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
It’s a good job then that govt is focused on trans people using a toilet as the threat to women and girls and not this vast and toxic criminal network of abusive men! Priorities huh?
Until we, collectively, decide to interrogate a society that keeps raising men to do these things and find out 1 why they do it, 2 puts active blockers in place to stop them becoming the sort who do and then 3 punishes those who still do it proportionately I fear we'll never get ahead of it.
I never want to hear "but what was she wearing" ever again.
And not a single trans man, in bathrooms or anywhere
I felt sick reading it
I wish I was in the tiniest bit surprised. But, that it happens, that it was ignored, no, not one bit,
‘Truly international’ network of drug-facilitated rape uncovered by UK crime agency www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
In France it is called chemical submission and I think this is a way more accurate way to name this kind of violence. Drug-facilitated sounds like a good way to dilute the guilt, was surely invented by a (not all) man
Her husband didn't get enough for what he did to her.
What important and valuable work the NCA have done, glad to see it in the Guardian, glad to see you highlighting it. I wonder what discussion it will provoke elsewhere. The question must be asked-why are so many men so morally bankrupt?
“In many cases, these crimes were being perpetrated by those who “utilise the existence of committed, trusting and often long-term relationships to perpetrate and facilitate offending”, the agency said, giving the example of the high-profile Gisèle Pelicot case in France.”
maybe this utterly unregulated, endless stream of free (super) hard❗core p o r n is not the best idea, on our path to civilisation... @unpga.bsky.social @ungeneva.bsky.social @oecd-ocde.bsky.social @coe.int @africanunion.bsky.social @ec.europa.eu @eesc.bsky.social @socialplatform.bsky.social
I look forward to Farage’s full-throated call for pure cold rage
That’s it, ladies. Apparently global rape and abuse is yesterday’s story. Page 16 is all it rates now.
Ah, not to worry, it’s part of a wider collapse of all sense of proportion: apparently the Pope finally excommunicating the cancer that is the antisemitic SSPX and its adherents rates even less space. And ‘traditional’ is seemingly the new word for ‘fascist’.
Doncha know it’s less of a threat than …. checks notes, trans inclusive bathrooms
To be fair it's the first story on the guardian online. Or is was earlier.
We need to do something about how normalized sexual assaults are in society www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
I agree. So much, "Yeah, that happened, but what's *really* important is . . ." It's exhausting
The fact that the police are finding them is a plus. I suspect it only seems "to become normalized" the same way autism rate seems to have increased. We got better at catching/cracking down on them.
