Local governments, nonprofits and companies announced closures and limited services around the Fourth of July weekend, with some organizations scheduling time off on Friday July 3 and Monday July 6 in observance of Independence Day. Because July 4 falls on a Saturday in 2026, Friday July 3 has been designated a federal holiday, and most federal and local offices and agencies including the U.S. Postal Service will be closed that day. The stock market will be closed on Friday July 3. Commercial banks are expected to remain open but with adjusted operating hours. Organizers canceled America’s Independence Day Parade in downtown Washington DC on July 4 because of an Extreme Heat Warning and a heat index of 110 to 115 degrees. Several organizations reported that administrative offices were closed for the holiday while operations or essential crews continued working. Residents should plan ahead for limited government services, mail interruptions, market closures, and locally altered event schedules.
