Masked Patriot Front march through Washington, Confederate flags displayed

newsJul 4, 202617930,652

On July 4, during the nation’s 250th anniversary, several hundred masked members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front marched from Union Station across Capitol Hill toward the National Mall displaying Confederate flags and chanting slogans including "Reclaim America." Witnesses and footage show the marchers wearing white masks and uniform outfits, beating drums, carrying flags some held upside down, and riding the D.C. Metro before marching. Multiple posts put the crowd around 400 people and say a streamer with the group described the event as a "total Aryan victory." Photographs distributed by Reuters show the group surrounding a Black girl in the crowd, and commentators compared the march to earlier Patriot Front actions in Washington in 2021 that led to clashes and later police video unmasking some members. Observers noted the march took place in sweltering 100 plus degree heat and that critics condemned the protesters for carrying Confederate imagery on Independence Day. The event prompted public denunciations in news coverage and raised fresh attention to Patriot Front’s nationwide, mobile demonstrations and past confrontations with antifascist activists.

A reminder that as you see photos of those Patriot Front douchebags today, they are marching on a holiday because none of them have anywhere else to be. None of them have friends or family who want them around on a holiday. No one is missing them today. They're already with their only friends.

Patriot Front headed to the Mall in DC. Seems a questionable way to dress for 100+ degree weather. Sure hope none of these little fascist twerps gets heat stroke . . .

This is America in one frame. And the most American person in this photograph isn’t covering her face. She represents a nation still haunted by the hatred it has never fully confronted, while carried forward by steadfast courage. The nation’s unfinished struggle is captured in a single moment.

America is celebrating 250 years today.
This photograph may be one of the most honest representations of who we have been, and who we still are, as a country.
A Black woman sits on a Washington, D.C., Metro train while masked members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front ride to a march through the nation's capital. As the country celebrates its founding, this is one of the images that defines this moment in America.

Hundreds of uniformed members of Patriot Front, a white supremacist group, marched toward the Capitol today. Their faces covered in white masks, the men beat drums and carried flags — some upside down, others Confederate — as they chanted, "Reclaim America!"
