Blue Angels and military jets paint red, white and blue over NYC for America 250
There's a ¶ from @michaelscherer.bsky.social's report on the America 250/Freedom 250 split that deserves far more attention. The bipartisan effort emphasized the celebration was about all Americans. The grift emphasized Trump's arch celebrating himself. www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
I was reminded of the passage when reading this part of @laurajedeed.bsky.social's thread on yesterday's celebration. The bipartisan effort set out to do this. Trump hijacked the effort so he could line his own pockets. bsky.app/profile/laur...
They love Nazi numerology and cryptic trolling, and I’m convinced 250 in lieu of 350 doesn’t really refer to that arch; it’s about the 100 million people they want to ethnically cleanse.
I’ll just note that “250 for 250” also fits with their repeated threats to deport 100 million Americans.
A lack of humility is what got America into this predicament. Americans continue to proclaim they are the "greatest country" in the world. Bravado and arrogance will ultimately be their undoing.
Build it & it will be torn down. 👻 👻
this is exactly the problem with turning national history into branding everything gets split into slogans and then sold as unity while clearly serving one political narrative
happy 250 america 🇺🇸 what a privilege to live in a country with this much natural beauty. trying to see all of it is an endless lifetime of adventure if you choose it. we are so lucky, i hope we can recognize that and work to protect it.
these photos of me were made at: monument valley (arizona), bryce canyon national park (utah), valley of fire state park (nevada), mount shasta (california). all by my v talented friend swapnil junjare, check out his work here: www.instagram.com/swapniljunja...
Beautiful photography. I’m envious of your opportunity to visit these beautiful places. It‘a deeply sad that most of us cannot afford to see our own country’s beauty due to being constantly under the thumb of financial pressure. I got a taste w/my now-ex GF; it totally rearranged my priorities.
Our National Parks are something truly worth celebrating, along with the foresight it took to make those parks possible. Re-upping this piece about the need to protect them for future generations. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/trump-vs-a...
here are some of america’s greatest accomplishments at 250, in my humble opinion as a brown person who has lived here for a decade: 1. the national park service 2. baseball culture 3. tom petty 4. pickle flavored kombucha 5. waffle house
"we're so luckyyy" and it's a 3000 mile wide stretch of land seized by slave owners . but at least u can have a fun vacation
Military flyovers will take place around the clock from 1:14 to 10:36pm. Residents may hear loud booms throughout the day, which can be distressing for those with anxiety, PTSD, neurodivergence, or pets.
My “america has nothing to prove” t shirt covered this
B1 afterburner. Rip everyone's ears. Also, this shit is gonna get very old, very quickly. Oh, you got the thunderbirds, the blue angels, *and* the golden knights? Seems like overkill, no?
Lmao the Osprey demo, that thing is gonna crash into the reflecting pool. Afterburner night pass at 10:30pm is so antisocial
Fighter jets, bombers, helicopters, parachute performers, the Blue Angels and Air Thunderbirds demonstration teams, Air Force One and NASA aircraft will be involved in a more than nine-hour spectacle. www.stripes.com/theaters/us/...
