AI 'actor' Tilly Norwood to lead feature film Misaligned

moviesJul 6, 2026727,096

Particle6 Productions announced Monday that its AI-generated persona Tilly Norwood will star in Misaligned, the comedy-drama that marks Tilly Norwood’s first feature‑film lead. Particle6, led by comedian and writer Eline Van der Velden, said Misaligned will be a hybrid production with traditional directors, writers and editors working alongside AI specialists and that AI training and mentorship will be built into the shoot. Van der Velden said, "AI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time." The film is set in the company’s so-called Tillyverse, described as a surreal digital world located up in the Cloud, and Particle6 calls the story a coming-of-age tale infused with existential AI chaos. SAG-AFTRA has denounced Tilly Norwood and Particle6, accusing the studio of "using stolen performances to put actors out of work, jeopardizing performer livelihoods and devaluing human artistry," and the union stated that Tilly Norwood is "not an actor" but "a character generated by a computer program." Particle6 said it plans to work with "leading filmmakers and crew" who want to bring their craft into AI production and framed Misaligned as both humorous and probing questions about identity and performance.

The story here is not this stupid movie – which will never get made and never come out – but how the Tilly Norwood people keep getting these credulous articles placed in national news sources despite zero demonstration of any success or demand for this.

one of my favorite ASMR channels is a nerdy leftist humanities academic who does research deep dives on everything from the Romanovs to the race to colonize the moon, and she had a GREAT one on Tilly Norwood that really gets into how bleak it all is from a feminist angle as well as artistically

Alarming symptom of the state of the media ecosystem

ai is the hollywood trade media's trump, they want it to happen more than they want to rehab disgraced directors/producers/actors

I desperately, desperately wish that there were journalists who were willing to write these stories. There would absolutely be people willing to talk anonymously about all these nothing stories that they're being made to write.

Mary Branscombe3

not to defend any of this, but journalists on deadline quote the people who answer the phone/email and say something quotable features writers like me can wait a month to talk to someone; daily media cannot

This needs to end in all forms. karlbode.com/ceo-said-a-t...

a while back i had to write about this whole thing and it is really shocking how it's typically all based on a single press release from the people behind it and nothing else bring back entertainment journalism

These types of articles get a lot of people quote-microblogging them and the additional traffic that goes with it.

When national news sources repeatedly take these PR pitches and turn them into articles that are deemed to be canonical notable news, we should just dump those sources. It's like what FORBES turned into. It's a slop factory.

I think the Tilly Norwood story is a good example of how broken media is. No one actually believes it’s popular—but it is rage bait, and if you’re a social person whose performance is based on all-in engagement numbers…why not push it. It’s more cynical than credulous.

The comedy-drama will star AI "actor" Tilly Norwood in a “hybrid production with traditional film and TV professionals — such as directors, writers and editors — working alongside AI specialists, with AI training and mentorship built into the production itself,” the company says.

No, she won’t, this won’t ever get released. Just like all the companies realizing they couldn’t just fire their employees they’ll get twenty minutes into making this and realize it just doesn’t work. A thirty second coke commercial is one thing, but this entirely different.

I get bored reading AI-generated five-sentence-long Reddit comments, there's no way I would sit through a feature-length AI film.

If you really want to make a movie on the computer, you should try that "animation" thing. It's a really crazy concept where instead of actors you have a bunch of shapes that move and they look like characters.

apparently, the reports of Tilly Norwood's death were exaggerated. To all our detriment. 😒

COUNTERPOINT: This is fake and none of this will actually happen.

jeff benzos returns6

Every time this fake bullshit that’s never gonna happen comes up in ever-more credulous press coverage I think about one of the most “call the FUCKING police” level weirdest things I ever read

Notice how there's a lack of details here. They don't say what writers, what professionals etc. Because like the entirely of AI, it is nothing but marketing hype. And nobody is going to watch this slop if it even gets made.

I won't be checking this out! Thanks!
