Texas university shuts down 'I.C.E. pops' art exhibit
1. Yikes 2. Those texts are the kind of thing I‘d make up on an exam if I wanted to bypass students’ speculation about possible legit motives 3. It seems (separately) bananas that university admins apparently thought they might be able to edit the exhibition themselves?? www.npr.org/2026/07/12/n...
Another example of obeying in advance. Our colleges and universities are largely failing the test.
The fake-text angle is exactly the kind of soulless bureaucratic move that erases real intent. Art shouldn't be a compliance form for admins to edit.
We certainly don’t want degenerate art at the University of North Texas
How to give reporters credit: "an independent arts journalist, Adam Schrader, the founder of the site Urgent Matter, filed a public records access request. He obtained text messages between UNT President Harrison Keller and then-Provost Michael McPherson about the show's removal, and posted..."
“In response to the exhibition's shutdown, graduating UNT seniors did away with an important art school tradition: the graduation show on campus. Instead, they showcased their work at independent venues across Denton and Dallas.”
With Texas universities now squarely under the thumb of the Texas GOP, an art exhibition is shut down because of concerns that it might be seen as critical of the Trump regime. And no criticism is tolerated. www.npr.org/2026/07/12/n...
Hey. Did we just see a lovely new Meme appear, out of nowhere? (and, most satisfying, for no good reason at all, cq entirely due to sick paranoid surpression & subsequent provocation/inspiration) Contagious, like luring angry buzzing wasps onto your popsicle. Stick it. Stuff it.
Is this cancel culture, Harper’s letter signers?
Fascism has come to America, "wrapped in the flag, and carrying a cross."
Sorry to read of this fascist censorship of the artist's protected first amendment rights. Great art helps us understand the human condition and uphold democracy. AmIrite, @rescreativa.bsky.social ? www.npr.org/2026/07/12/n...
#AbolishICE Censorship = Fascism. Would love to see this artist get some love in #Indiana.
