Nancy Mace eyes Lindsey Graham Senate seat

politicsJul 12, 2026442,898

Rep. Nancy Mace is strongly considering a run in the Aug. 11 special Republican primary to fill the U.S. Senate vacancy left by the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, according to people familiar with her thinking. Mace finished fifth in South Carolina’s GOP primary for governor earlier this year. Her team plans to put a poll in the field tomorrow to gauge viability, Axios reports. South Carolina law allows candidates to begin filing to run on July 21, a timetable that would make the special election window fast-moving and could draw multiple Republican entrants. Democrat Dr. Annie Andrews has already said she is running against Graham in 2026, leaving the immediate scramble for the seat to Republicans and the governor’s appointment process as the next concrete developments to watch.
