Manchester United in advanced talks to sign Youri Tielemans
🚨 Youri Tielemans move from Aston Villa to Manchester United through £35m release clause in midfielder’s contract. #AVFC had no wish to sell + offered new deal but left with little choice due to mechanism & #MUFC set to proceed on transfer 🚨 @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/744...
And arsenal still deciding whether Bruno is worth more than 40 million 😂
Wake up babe we got another Ornstein bomba
Football in England is being ruined by the financial rules that allow the cartel clubs to take the best players of other clubs It's going to get worse every season It's simply fixing the league At what point will journalists start to report on this as opposed to playing along for clicks?
I hope that we get like a proper defensive midfielder on top of Santos and Tielemans, but £35m is a good deal.
The fact United have managed to do this for just over half what they paid for an older Casemiro goes to show that 1) they’re getting less bad at this and 2) no the market isn’t just bonkers now in a way it wasn’t already
Wow. Losing him permanently and Onana due to injury is a pretty big blow to Villa. It could be a good signing for United if Tielemans stays fit, unfortunately.
Well, well, well ... who saw that coming? Surely Villa should have put a higher release fee in his contract?
🚨💣 BREAKING: Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, HERE WE GO! 🔴🇧🇪 United activate €41m release clause into Tielemans’ contract at Aston Villa, verbal agreement also with Belgian midfielder. Andrey Santos done + Tielemans next after Éderson deal called off on Friday. 📈
So Villa had UCL + Elite Manager + Won Something and still lost an important player to big 6 team. Lots of people say it's more than money, but Carrick have more pull than Emery? Nah. #NUFC
Spending that Ederson money on Tielemans and Santos is decent business
Aston Villa are expected to lose both Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne due to release clauses in their contracts. PSG are interested in triggering Digne's clause, worth under £10m. Villa didn't want to sell either player this summer, but the clauses leave them powerless. #AVFC
Less annoyed with that than I am with the Tielemans sale. Digne definitely lost a yard last season
Not too fussed about Digne. Been a great servant, but would still be on high wages, even with his paycut, and his age works against him.
Digne off the books makes sense. Fantastic servant and has given so much in the last 18 months in particular but high wages and the lack of pace has been a concern that's only grown over time. #AVFC
Oooft what a 24 hours for Villa, looks like the squad rebuild is happening whether we like it or not! #AVFC
Said I was open-minded about this summer for Aston Villa! Youri Tielemans has been incredible for Villa. A brilliant, brilliant player & he could make United title contenders. The £35m fee is so low, but AVFC may have had to agree to it for him to sign. #avfc
He would have wanted a big, big salary going into his 30s. That's difficult & likely unwise for Villa to pay (what if Tielemans falls off/gets injured), whereas United can afford it. Roberto Olabe built a young profile at Real Sociedad & we may be going in that direction. #avfc
It's pure profit coming Villas way though , I'm ambivalent whether he stays or goes , I reckon we might have seen the best if him and he's starting to pick up injuries
