Metropolitan Police Department body-camera video shows a Las Vegas sergeant stopping Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo on May 15 near Mandalay Bay for a suspected red-light violation and then letting him go without issuing a citation. Lombardo was driving a Ford pickup with his wife, Donna, in the front passenger seat; the officer tells him the stop was for a right turn onto Giles. The sergeant approaches and the governor identifies himself, saying "Joe Lombardo," and the officer replies "I’m aware" before ending the encounter with "You are good to go, sir. Appreciate you. Have a good day." Lombardo’s campaign said the couple were headed to Harry Reid International Airport, that he fully complied with the officer, and that he did not seek special treatment. The Las Vegas Police Protective Association, which endorsed Lombardo, provided the video to the Las Vegas Review-Journal and said the stop was routine and did not involve preferential treatment. The Nevada State Democratic Party said Lombardo used his position to avoid accountability, and the ACLU of Nevada urged Metro to release all records and dashcam footage related to the incident promptly and without redaction.
