Junior Caminero left the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in the top of the third inning after being hit in his left hand by a 97.6 mph sinker from St. Louis Cardinals closer Riley O’Brien at Citizens Bank Park. Caminero crumpled near home plate, received a trainer visit, jogged off to the visitors’ dugout and underwent X-rays with a Philadelphia Phillies doctor; The Athletic’s Matt Gelb reported the exam and the Fox broadcast said the X-rays were negative. Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas replaced Caminero as a pinch runner and then took over at third base for the American League. Caminero, who turned 23 last week, is a two-time All-Star, has appeared in every Rays game this season and had entered the break as a primary contributor to Tampa Bay’s three-game AL East lead over the New York Yankees. On Monday night Caminero had competed in the Home Run Derby and lost in the semifinals to Cardinals slugger Jordan Walker.
