Project Hail Mary now playing, adaptation of Andy Weir stars Ryan Gosling
Just finished this book. Loved it! And it's one of those rare occasions where the film is as brilliant as the book - obviously some changes made, but nevertheless an excellent interpretation of the story #ProjectHailMary #Booksky
Loved the book and the film is definitely in my top 10.
I loved it too! I also read The Martian by him. A lot of technical jargon in that one but still very good.
I just finished the book yesterday. I loved it. I haven’t seen the movie yet. Sounds very promising.
There’s some really smart exposition via jokes, like the scene where Rocky can hear Grace whispering. This establishes how crazy sensitive hearing is in a very memorable way. It’s entertaining but also the foundation for the ending when Grace knocking on the ginormous spaceship and actually - 1/2
Honestly think the film is hands down better than the book, because it makes clearer it's not taking itself too seriously and you're not supposed to get wound up by the ropey science.
The audio books is spectacular, too. The way Ricky's voice is done is 👌.
The thing about project Hail Mary is I do think the author, for all his recent reviews has revealed he can be a thoughtless idiot, did pick a science problem that the world governments could actually work together on realistically
It’s not like climate change where there’s tons of vested political capital and economic incentives to do nothing (or make the problem worse)
it's beautiful that he views international cooperation to stop existential threats as apolitical, tbh. God I wish that was real.
I liked the book but yeah... Author being a tool turned me off going to see the movie or wanting to read anything else of his in the future.
I just started reading it and... yeah, more or less. (If I'm being catty, I do wish Weir didn't write at a third grade reading level but it is what it is.)
Project Hail Mary. I was sobbing for an hour, from around midway to the end. I can’t wait to read the book.
I read the book before seeing the movie. I *knew* what was coming, and it still got me.
I sobbed reading the book and was afraid the movie would be disappointing. Nope both were great
I JUST watched that for the first time tonight and it’s so moving!
I read the book before I saw it, and knew what was coming, and I was BAWLING my eyes out.
Great movie, I read somewhere they are working on a sequel. Absolutely can't wait.
Both good. I thought the book was even better. Of course, I read it first…
