Fortune: Beijing startup’s Kimi K3 model challenges Claude and ChatGPT
btw, the real significance of the Kimi K3 is OAI and Anthropic can no longer credibly claim that Chinese progress on LLMs is just crude distillation. Rather, there is no "secret sauce" Anyone can do this with sufficient resources. A lot of equity value in US markets is currently positioned otherwise
the entirety of US GDP growth is AI infrastructure. Some of that is independent of OAI/Anthropic dominance. An "open source first" world where LLMs still produce outsized productivity gains (VERY MUCH STILL SPECULATIVE) will need Data Centers. But not at the scale currently seen domestically
our advantage as Americans is merely the vast treasure trove of excess capital which the rich of the world invest in our hands It’s not nothing but it’s also not a permanent advantage
K3 feels extremely benchmaxxed and in use I'm really not impressed, but also I'm not impressed by Fable or Sol either for like 99% of what people use. Moonshot just doesn't have another model worth using as a fallback so it probably feels worse (no, K2.x is not it, esp. when GLM 5.2 exists)
honestly, anybody that bought Dario's distillation narrative should just let their computer do all their thinking for them from now on.
