FDA finds cyclospora in Taylor Farms lettuce sample
It's a scam all the way down. Taylor Farms gave MAGA Inc. $1M USD less than a week after FDA postponed implementation of food traceability rules. www.patreon.com/mattbc/posts...
Something is fundamentally wrong with the United States.
Shouldn't Need to Be a Lawyer stays free because the people who need it the most can afford it the least. If you can comfortably spare $2 a month, you're what keeps it free. (If you can't, then do not pay me — I need to be able to sleep at night) Reading & sharing is support too patreon.com/mattbc
It's so so little grift / protection money to burn it all down, to eviscerate it all. Unbelievable selling out, such valently evil forces. #HostisHumaniGeneris
I work with flavor chemicals that literally cannot host any sort of pathogens, but I have to do multiple traceability reports each year. It’s unfathomable that produce companies can get away with less stringent standards.
Taylor Farms has a long history of problems www.cidrap.umn.edu/cyclospora/f...
remember kids always look for these stamps.... if you don't want the shits.
Just processing that he made a video where he shit on everyone right before intentionally making everyone shit themselves
Motherfuckers ruined my panera bread salads
The diarrhea lettuce was seemingly enabled by a $1 million "exercise of free speech" by a large corporation. Wow, I'm so glad corporations are persons under the first amendment.
It’s actually insulting that all of this was over a $1 million bribe.
This is an absolute scandal.
allowing them to maintain a deathgrip on the means of production is going to get us all very sick, maybe killed; it is imperative they be seized
Fuck big agriculture. More farmers markets and home gardens. My community has big green spaces we’re very proud of, but this is south OC so suggesting using some of that space for a killer community veggie garden would be met with crickets, cuz PROPERTY VALUES.
Oooof. Imagine dropping a mil only to be responsible for a parasite that had folks praying to whatever deity would listen while fighting for their life on the toilet... Which led to a recall that likely cost MILLIONS. With an S.
Can we FINALLY put to rest the myth that ALL politicians are corrupt. Or both parties are corrupt. These are myths to discourage voting that benefit particularly egregiously corrupt Republicans who also don’t care about good government or serving the American people.
Oh there it is. It's government corruption. Remember when we were a real country? With laws?
This shit with Taylor Farms is exactly what I’m talking about when I say you may say you “don’t do politics,“ but politics are more than happy to do you. The microbes political bribes got out the door and into your intestines don’t particularly care that you find it all beneath you.
Refusing to discuss food contamination, screwflies, and vaccination rates do not put you beyond their reach.
the thing about politics is everything is politics this distresses certain extremely comfortable people and that's funny
I mean if I was going to sell out american healthcare, I'd try to get more than a single million, that's just me
The FDA said a sample of shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms that is not part of the current recall tested positive for the parasitic illness
The story keeps getting worse. And it started at explosive diarrhea.
They need to stop these guys now
Shut Taylor Farms down, in spite of their donations to the current admin. This isn’t their first strike.
This is undoubtedly going to trace back to fertilizer prices and the temptation to cut corners
The owner is a big Republican donor and Trumper
So, if eating salads and exercising is supposedly part of a healthy routine, but eating salads is giving people explosive diarrhea and I have a family member who is an avid long distance bike rider who is having both knees replaced, I’m not convinced.
The FDA is now saying this finding "should be considered a false positive" after a re-review www.reuters.com/business/hea...
Was at a restaurant birthday party yesterday with a Caesar salad course and I just kept looking around thinking dear lord what are we doing here
I continue to be confused that the bagged salads are being sold at all. These outbreaks happen every year or so. It's been salmonella, e-coli, listeria, and now a parasite. Just throw the whole brand away
Has the FDA logo always looked like Sega? Is this old information that I just didn’t know??
Great, so we're saying it's just the *clears throat, leans into microphone* tip of the iceberg? Tip your servers.
To everything there is a season and purpose under heaven. A time to protect and a time for uncontrollable diarrhea. A time to build and time to remember, "Oh fuck, we invented food regulation for a goddamn good reason" We will go through winter so we remember to not be goddamn idiots in spring.
The libertarian utopia is now
Sega does what the FDon't.
A whole damn nation is about to experience an object lesson in why regulations are needed.
Chile lemme go lay some lettuce seeds..
MAGA Christian Nationalist Bruce Taylor owns Taylor Farms which is causing the explosive diarrhea. This is what happens when Republicans “end regulations to help businesses” that donate to their campaigns.
And then they tried to blame taco bell...... Ruin the fuckers. I'll no longer buy Taylor farms and will watch to see if they dba as someone else.
Remember when Reagan took the solar panels off the WH, to kiss the ass of the fossil fuel industry?
If only he’d eaten the lettuce.
Lettuce now praise infamous men, for theirs is the kingdom of explosive diarrhea.
What Bruce Taylor doesn't realize is that all those regulations, inspections, and precautions he's lobbying to avoid? Those are what keeps Taylor Farms in business. Public health and safety isn't a political issue. But with the GOP in charge--especially with jackasses like RFK Jr--it's become one.
Yep. There'd be no killing lettuce if proper regulating hadn't been removed.
last week, as Taylor Farms' lettuce was turning Americans into human shit-geysers, their top executives were meeting at the White House, trying to derail the investigations. what the fuck? thank you for your attention to today's post in which I bring all the receipts. link is here: bit.ly/4vIBfdF
Ok, that does it!!! Let US make Taylor Farms famous people!! Sounds like a massive boycott they’d just love?!!!
I'm curious. Are they watering with sewage water? That happened many years back in, I believe, Mexico. Many people in the US were sickened. Have they run out of water? Im not buying immigrant pickers causing this. Are they using them as scape goats?
@peacebird.bsky.social Sounds underhanded to me! Not surprised with this shitass administration!!!
Everyone’s first instinct is to bribe Trump…!!!
Can't we just bribe trump to Resign? What's the number? Biggest GoFundMe ever?
They’re waging war against the American people.
Taylor Farms lettuce is the what happens when you start putting corporate convenience ahead of food safety. Rather than making it easier for companies to produce contaminated food, we should be making it easier for people to afford their groceries
This is not the first time Taylor Farms has been so sloppy. They are a reprehensible, greedy company. Salinas, CA should be ashamed of this company.
Absolutely! And provide field workers somewhere to use the toilet instead of shitting in the fields.
Also: don’t shat in the fields of food & wash yer damm hands, boys!!
I appreciate your point, but a restaurant with a contaminated head of lettuce would encounter the same issue.
we should be throwing people who make contaminated food under the jail
Two thoughts: 1) I never thought I would be in a position of deciding whether to believe the government or a private corporation. 2) This will replace the example for why we need business regulation (the previous being chalk in spoiled milk to make it look fresh).
avoiding the cyclospora scare by rinsing my lettuce in the panera lemonade that kills people
We were talking about the lettuce parasite at work and I just stole your joke
Panera should have just full sent on that and like partnered with prisons that do lethal injections lol but the death sentence is you just have to drink lemonade until your heart stops
Can you rinse mine too?
unfortunately for me, who drank 2 a day, that shit was discontinued. i had to go back to meth.
if you’re going to panera I’ll take a chocolate chipper or one of those cinnamon rolls please
Oh crap, I'm eating Panera right now, but I forgot to get my disinfectant lemonade 😭
Will have comments on this later. But worth a read now! (3-5 min read. tl;dr Taylor Farm's lettuce almost certainly went to way more places than just Taco Bell & Sysco, & those retailers need to speak up.)
Whoa. I hadn't heard that they sold to Sysco. That's so much worse.
Everyone needs to recognize the problem here! It's the responsibility of our *government* to track, identify, compile, recall & *publicize* complete information on a national contamination/foodborne health emergency! 34-felon, Republicans & Elon destroyed that alarm system network! Details below
I wonder if there's any reporting in Spanish on those Guanajuato farms that seemed to be the source of the contaminated lettuce.
I saw a list of retailers yesterday. It was most helpful as the poster stated the barcodes (?) on the packages identified Taylor Farms as the source with TP followed by a string of numbers. I recall Kroger & Trader Joe's as two of several of the grocery stores listed.
Great thread on cyclospora-related recalls from Paris Martineau @paris.nyc, an investigative reporter at @consumerreports.org. Wanna lead the FDA?
I added Taylor Fresh Foods (Taylor Farms) to the boycott guide. They paid Trump $1 million dollars to relax food safety regulations so they can wash their lettuce in shit water. That's the short version but essentially true. As a new entry, it's listed first: open.substack.com/pub/psychope...
Pete, it's any product that has a product code starting with TF. They have other brands. Anything from Taylor Farms has 'TF'
We used water over + over again, just adding detergent, to blanch + wash fresh vegetables in production. We would blanch rats, snakes, once in a while, a whole fucking duck. They would shovel spilled spinach straight from the floor, toss it in a hopper, abracadabra, chopped spinach. Frozen fresh
Disgusting….on multiple levels!!! Will not buy their products and I’ll let others know about their donating to the orange monster!
Update on Taylor Farms Outbreak. List of other suppliers, outlets, brands, and codes to look out for…
This woman is running for State Rep in Michigan. I like when politicians look out for their people. I’m funny that way
Just got back from my local farmer with a bag of lettuce. Made a salad. Didn't have to worry. This is just the downside of factory farming, driving farmers into bankruptcy if they don't conform to an inhumane production model, opening the door to mass contamination.
No more Taylor farms coming back to my house
Stick with Bright Farms. Organic, indoor growing, delicious.
Yayyyyyyou got it! And hmmmmm. 😒
I got sick from Culvers. It had to be the onions. I had no lettuce.
Hold up. Taylor Farms- the company that grows the tainted lettuce that’s made over 5K people sick in 34 states wants to do what now? Distance itself from the outbreak?! Come on.
How many people did Trump and Musk fire from the FDA again?
I know you're not supposed to kidnap agricultural corporation CEOs and beat them to death. Just reminding myself. It's ... wrong?
Just to clarify, Taylor Farms isn’t an actual farm. They’re a processing facility. They shred the lettuce, they don’t grow it.
I’m sure they’ll contribute something to the ballroom construction.
As a person who eats food, I would also like to air my concerns with the official investigation into this parasite.
I had already stopped buying Taylor Farms products. In fact, I'm not sure I ever did buy them, but I know that for several months at least I associated that name with bad news. They truly s/b out of business soon.
New: The FDA is retracting its previous statement about detecting cyclospora in an unrecalled lot of Taylor Farms lettuce “FDA laboratory experts re-reviewed the sample results and have concluded that the finding does not represent true amplification and should be considered a false positive.”
I guess this is what $1M gets you in the Trump administration...
Seems like they are actively and knowingly harming/ possibly causing the death of American citizens.
FDA’s screening method for Cyclospora is a standard qPCR protocol targeting a diagnostic mitochondrial DNA gene (Cyclospora is a eukaryote, not a bacteria)… there are several common sources of qPCR false positives, but IMO the most common is cross-contaminated samples FDA should clarify
Why should we believe this administration?
Well, ok! Back to eating the explosive poop lettuce then, I guess...
One of two things must happen now. 1. Taylor Farms sues FDA's ass off. 2. Taylor Farms does nothing, pointing to a bribe. In the second option, the public boycotts Taylor Farms because if you don't, you eat diarrhea lettuce.
Here's the thing: No one has any reason to believe them
Total purchase price for a Trump administration public statement: $1 million donation
any food safety people want to translate "does not represent true amplification" for me? how should I assess this in terms of Favor To Trump Donor versus Sober Scientific Assessment of Risk?
I guess the check cleared
i don't believe you dot gif
I M P E A C H R F K J r .
The false positive that Taco Bell got slammed with, but not the Trump-funded supplier of the lettuce to the Taco Bells
Doing a banger of a job to restore public trust in government
It is utterly inexcusable that the FDA should have released data like this that hadn't been checked six ways from Sunday. Instead of lowering anxiety and increasing trust in government oversight, they accomplished the exact opposite.
The cynic in me is just screaming, “Amazing what a $1 Million makes happen in a corrupt administration.” It could be the FDA is correct here, and are behaving correctly, but the doubt THEY have introduced in themselves cannot be expiated for a very long time.
"There are two ways a food source gets contaminated. We don’t know which one it is yet. I hope we get answers soon. But it does trace back to human fecal matter hitting our produce, and then us eating it and making us sick." This won't be the last time.
Good, helpful article. And a giant pox on this administration and all the science deniers who’ve ruined this country’s legacy of health leadership.
Disease outbreaks are a reality of industrial farming. The threat is the Trump admin and the brain-worm farmer running HHS, who dismantled the CDC's parasite division and made cyclospora testing and reporting optional for "government efficiency" What kind of mentally diseased psychopath does that?
“When you’re slidin into 3rd and you wanna take a….”
Contaminated irrigation water or in a packing house are usually the root cause based on my experience.
The Trump Dump of Death
hmmmm "Taylor Farms has confirmed that this product is not part of its current recall, the FDA said"
"The FDA said the sample was collected during targeted surveillance while investigating the ongoing outbreak and that the positive lot has been detained." TLDR expect to see more products added to the recall as more samples get tested.
Taylor Farms is dead to me just like Boars Head and Jeni’s.
Today at the Del Rey Oaks Safeway. I see that CA is not yet mentioned in any reports but dudes
Remember, folks, if you give thousands of Americans explosive runs with your product, you just need to donate a few thousand bucks to Crypto and your slate is CLEAN!!
