Poisoned water is turning rural Iowa bluer, Politico reports
Poisoned Water Is Giving Democrats an Opening in Iowa The rural state's politics are shifting, thanks to high cancer rates.
It only took poisoned water?
It’s disappointing that the daily dose of cancer Trump and the GOP has been spreading throughout the country wasn’t enough to inspire them to rethink their loyalties. #Blues
It’s sad that a common human trait is for a person to ignore a problem until it affects them personally.
Why won’t people just listen to the science community warnings instead of waiting for these companies to poison us?
I live in Iowa. I wish dem would put up billboards with cancer statistics throughout rural Iowa along side the number of bills proposed or passed in GOP led congress. The ONLY bill I know of is one to protect the pesticide industry from lawsuits...
GOP taking a sledge hammer everyday to our govt and protection of waters endangered species air forever chemicals and the news is not reporting all the damage the gop is doing
One be one people are waking up. Hurry up, it may be too late.
We need the same Opening in Northwest Georgia where suddenly wealthy well-equipped dairy farmers cannot sell their milk nor feed it to their families due to stain release PFAS runoff from old carpet manufacturing facilities.
For all the folks dunking on the Hawkeye State in the replies, Iowa was one of the most reliably progressive states in the Midwest throughout the late twentieth- and early twenty-first centuries. It went red only once in the seven presidential contests between 1984 and 2016. During that stretch 1/
Hilarious. Democrats have to take advantage of the opening BEFORE the voters are all dead. What are the odds of that?
Iowa it’s about to elect a democrat governor, and thanks to the points Jon is making below, they have a real shot at winning the Senate seat too.
Democrats are winning in Iowa thanks to high cancer rates I am sorry but this is too morbid, even for me “Thank you for dying for me, your democrat candidate” should not be a political slogan anywhere
Recognize the obvious: The PRO-POLLUTION policies of the GOP impact everyone regardless of YOUR political orientation! Pollution is NON-THINKING and cannot care who it kills/endangers/harms! Just like viruses, pollution is unaffected by politics. #usdemocracy
In Iowa, the race for US Senate is ranked Lean Republican, and the race for governor is ranked Toss-Up. Iowa has an enormous problem with the growing rate of cancers. Democratic candidates are successfully locking on to this issue. www.politico.com/news/magazin...
Josh Turek is the Democratic candidate for US Senate m @joshturek4iowa.bsky.social
Rob Sand is the Democratic candidate for Iowa governor. @robsandia.bsky.social
Farm chemicals!!! I live in Ohio grain farm country. I and several neighbors have had cancer, died from cancer, or have other unexplained disorders.
The cancers are conservative voters choosing idiots to run their state. Rurals continue to believe that liberal policies won’t work for them, despite Republican politicians ruining their towns and caving to the massive farming conglomerates. I.E., farmers are idiots and should be ignored.
Good morning from Turin, Iowa, RAGBRAI Day 1. Out today in Politico Magazine, @tomphilpott.bsky.social and I collabed to report a profile of Chris Jones, a Democrat running for secretary of agriculture in Iowa.
This year, the corn is sweating for a different reason. @ninaelkadi.com and @tomphilpott.bsky.social profile the one and only Chris Jones @theswinerepublic.bsky.social.
Chris Jones needs to be one of the biggest stories of 2026, and what he is doing needs to spread to the big ag states.
