Thousands march in Pride parades, London marks its 30th

London’s 30th Pride parade drew thousands Sunday to close a 10-day festival, marching from the Western Fair District to Victoria Park. Pride London president Robyn Hodgson said organizers expected larger crowds after wildfire smoke forced cancellation of Friday events and heavy rain disrupted Saturday for three hours. This year’s parade included 86 entries and nearly 4,000 people on floats or marching behind banners. Cheers of “Happy Pride” echoed down Queens Avenue as rainbow-decorated floats passed, including a travelling karaoke float with live singing and people dancing behind it. Attendees emphasized community and visibility; 18-year-old Londoner Rex Ross said celebrating the community “means a lot,” and many participants wore rainbow attire, including a dog named Bailey.
