Universal and Blumhouse released the first trailer and poster for Other Mommy, which opens in US theaters October 9, 2026. Directed by Rob Savage and written by Nathan Elston, the film adapts Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. Jessica Chastain headlines as the titular figure, joined by Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Sean Kaufman, and Karen Allen. The studio frames the film as a James Wan, linked horror thriller about a young girl named Bela who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home that looks uncannily like her own mother. Universal published the trailer and poster alongside the October release announcement; the marketing leans into maternal doppelgänger scares with the tagline "Your mommy won't save you."

The book this is based on, Josh Malerman's Incidents Around the House, was so scary I stopped 3 pages in to look up the end on Wikipedia. The dread was unbearable almost from page 1. I didn't finish it because the content is Not For Me, but holy SHIT was this scary. I hope the movie captures that.

I do wish they had stayed with the same title as the book this is based on, as the current title just makes me think of Coraline. Either way looks interesting. Just hope it's not infested with a bunch of loud noise jump scares like this trailer has 🙄

My guess is it's because the Other Mother is the main antagonist in Coraline, which is popular enough that it'd be confusing (or maybe a copyright issue, idk). But the way that trailer lays out each letter after the other feels like a fake out and I don't know why. Ofc we're expecting the rhyme!!
