I applaud Mamdani here for being honest and admitting he does not have the legal authority to arrest Netanyahu, but that the federal government does and should. Netanyahu is a war criminal wanted by the ICC and Mamdani point blank calls on the feds to uphold the arrest warrant and arrest Netanyahu.

I'm glad Mamdani said what he did about Netanyahu and arresting him, but I also am perplexed by people suggesting he should potentially arrest despite already knowing he lacks the legal authority to do so. I can't imagine an easier case for martial law than directly interfering with federal powers.

Like, this is pretty explicitly covered by multiple different laws dictating foreign powers, diplomatic immunity, and extradition protocols. There is not carve out in the separation between state and federal powers for "except if you really, really think you're in the right." That's treason. Period.
