San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria announced on July 22 that San Diego Comic-Con has signed a deal to remain in the city through 2030, a move the mayor called "fantastic news for fans, for local businesses" and the tourism and hospitality workers who support the event. Comic-Con International has previously extended short-term contracts since its 2019 five-year deal, with one-year and two-year extensions covering 2025 through 2027; the Popverse report says dates for SDCC 2027 have been announced and imply there will be dates for 2028, 2030 though those could shift from the usual late July window. Comic-Con officials, including chief communications and strategy officer David Glanzer, warned the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and related venue demands, potential union impacts, and financial considerations could still force relocations or even a temporary pause. Separately, Jewish groups nationwide plan to mark Tisha B'Av with kaddish vigils and then march to Comic-Con to protest immigration enforcement policy, staging demonstrations pegged to the fast and mourning day near the convention. The two developments set up simultaneous large-scale cultural and political activity in San Diego this summer, with Comic-Con secured through 2030 but also facing operational questions tied to the Olympics and with protests expected during the convention period.
