Red Sox tie franchise record with 15th straight win

The Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader at Fenway Park to record their 15th straight victory, tying the franchise streak set in 1946. Jarren Duran drove in three runs, including a two-out, first-inning triple after Masataka Yoshida, Ceddanne Rafaela and Willson Contreras loaded the bases; Caleb Durbin opened the scoring with a two-run single in that inning. Jake Bennett allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings for Boston, while Baltimore righthander Dean Kremer lasted six innings and gave up six runs before retiring 11 of his final 12 batters. Boston used relievers Justin Slaten (four outs), Garrett Whitlock (three) and Aroldis Chapman (three) to finish the game; Chapman’s save was the 390th of his career, tying Dennis Eckersley for ninth on the all-time list. The streak began July 3 against the Angels and is the longest in the majors since the St. Louis Cardinals won 17 straight in 2021. The Red Sox, now 52-48 and 23-27 at home, return to the field for the 7:10 p.m. nightcap with a chance to set a new franchise record with a 16th consecutive win.
