Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement said it struck two Saudi oil tankers, ENCELA and LAYLIA, transiting the Red Sea, using "a number of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones," Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said. Saree said the strikes caused fires aboard both ships and that the Houthis had forced "nearly ten ships" to abandon their routes and turn back. The claims follow a maritime blockade the Houthis imposed on Saudi vessels on July 20, which the group framed as retaliation for an air blockade and recent violence around Sanaa airport. Saudi authorities have not commented on the Houthi assertion. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said it had received reports that a tanker was struck; its master reported being hit by an unknown projectile and fighting a fire aboard. The attacks put at risk Saudi efforts to route oil through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb chokepoint and further threaten a key shipping corridor for global oil exports.

The Houthis hit 2 Saudi tankers in the Red Sea. The Saudis are gonna respond. Russia suspended oil loading at the Caspian Sea Pipeline Consortium terminal after a Ukrainian drone struck a tanker. Energy analysts I follow are starting to freak out but the markets don’t seem to be responding so far. 🤷‍♂️
