Elon Musk says Grok Imagine will make AI film adaptation of The Odyssey

techJul 22, 2026282,861

Elon Musk said his AI platform Grok Imagine will produce a “historically accurate” full-length film adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey before the end of the year, linking to a user-shared three-minute clip said to be generated by Grok Imagine showing Odysseus with the nymph Calypso. Musk framed the project as a corrective to Christopher Nolan’s recent Odyssey, which Musk has repeatedly criticized over casting choices and by reposting abusive messages aimed at Nolan’s decisions to cast Lupita Nyong’o and Elliot Page. Nolan’s film opened to strong results, taking US$264 million at the global box office in its opening weekend and earning a 97 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting Musk’s criticisms had little commercial impact. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson publicly attacked Musk’s vow, saying Musk “doesn’t know s, about cinema” and calling his opinions on art worthless. Nolan also warned that the idea AI could replace human creativity is “nonsense” and said the technology has been widely rejected by the public even as investors embrace it. The announcement escalates an ongoing culture-war dispute over casting and representation in Nolan’s film and sets up a near-term test of whether an AI studio can deliver a feature-length adaptation by year-end.

Thirty percent of Americans now say it was "inappropriate" to cast Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy. That opinion didn't exist a year ago. Somebody built it. New piece on the campaign against The Odyssey: what it failed to do, and what it actually accomplished. www.readtpa.com/p/where-did-...

I don't believe for a second that 30% of Americans believe this. Nope. I don't think 30% of Americans give a shit about who got cast in what. What about the vast majority of people who have never participated in a YouGov poll and who wouldn't know where to find one?

What annoys me the most about all of this bs is how dishonest it is. You want to convince me that it's inappropriate to cast a black woman as Greek but it's fine that most of the cast is so pale that they look like they don't even belong in the Mediterranean? Get the fuck outta my face!

30% of Americans would happily kick a puppy through a baby’s chest if their god/king told them to

Helen of Troy, a woman who hatched out of an egg cause Zeus had sex with her mother in swan form is perfectly accepted by 30% of Americans, but not the fact that she’s Black in a movie? Even though Lupita Nyong’o is stunningly gorgeous, which is what Helen of Troy is famous for? Does not compute.

So... about the percentage that STILL support what Trump is doing? That's not a surprise. Racists gonna racism.

the most exhausting thing about all this helen of troy drama is that the character has like 15 minutes of screentime in a 3 hour movie and most of it is as an out of focus background character

Wasn't Helen of Troy supposed to be hot? If so, perfect casting
