Halo: Campaign Evolved earns strong early reviews
The Halo remake is decent. But playing Campaign Evolved and the original back-to-back reveals how right Bungie got it back in 2001. Review: www.pcgamer.com/games/halo/h...
"Where I used to gaze out at Alpha Halo's horizons and see a misty, hauntingly beautiful facsimile of nature floating in space, I see in its place picturesque compositions of mountains, trees, and water that belong on a gift shop postcard. This remake makes Halo, the place, less alien."
I typically do this before remakes come out, don't know why It never occurred to me to write something like this. Great stuff!
The funny part about this is that, from my understanding, it is actually a modified Halo Reach under there. Which is weird, because I thought the whole point of this exercise was as practice developing Halo on a brand new engine with a brand new toolset. This seems like the worst of both worlds.
It's a hell of a lot better looking than Combat Evolved Anniversary ever was but more interestingly they've changed just about every mechanic to mirror Halo 3 youtu.be/6n2DyYMhLtc
Man, I'd have been so excited about this game a few years ago, but Xbox have just put such a bad taste in my mouth that I'm finding it hard to feel anything for this lol That being said, I appreciate all the comparisons in this video, it definitely looks pretty
While that sounds really cool, I adore Halo 3, I just cannot justify a purchase with how awful Xbox has been to their workers.
I just can't give the visuals any praise when they admitted to using gen ai tools in October 2025. I love ai tools but gen ai can't get out.
Weird that it feels like Halo 3 given that it is running on the Reach engine. Still probably going to skip though. I don't have the money to play CE again when MCC is right there.

Halo Campaign Evolved Review: An Unreal excuse to revisit a classic. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ www.videogameschronicle.com/review/halo-...
There’s no way that a stripped down halo 1 in unreal is worth much more than a youtube video
tysm for marketing for Xbox, they need all the support they can get in these trying times.
AAA games always get high critic scores regardless of actual quality, no offense to y’all (that’s just how it is) So color me extremely skeptical
My short review: Halo Campaign Evolved is the quintessential example of how some games age like fine wine, and the original Halo is one of the best games to prove it
It's also a perfect example of why I think aim down sights ruined FPS games. This game doesn't have it, and the combat feels infinitely more visceral and exciting than anything that came after Call of Duty. I have long argued that aim down sights is the worst thing to ever happen to FPS.
I played the original Halo at launch day for the Xbox back in 2001, and this game has only proven why that game sits in my mind as one of the greatest games ever made.
Oh wow, you really get how some games just get better with age! Halo's campaign totally does that, it's like a classic anime that you can rewatch and still love. It reminds me of how some stories just have that timeless quality, you know? So glad you enjoyed it!
I don't even usually play Halo: CE on the improved graphics in MCC. I just think the original graphics are better at capturing the mood of the game.
I will never forget the feeling of playing 343 Guilty Spark for the first time. Pure, visceral, pants-shitting terror. I remember encountering the Covenant again after The Library and being like "omg, my friends! How I've missed you!"
