Xbox tests free ad-supported cloud gaming with Insiders
XBOX Insiders - "Today, we’re starting to test an ad-supported way to stream select games from your library for a limited time, available to XBOX Insiders." Players will have one hour session limits across supported devices and regions. news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/0...
Trying to stay a gamer during the never ending enshittification hurricane
Physical games going away was the kick to the left nut, ad-supported gaming is a kick to the right nut. How awful
Stream with ads for games I already “own”?
I am not directing this at Wario64, but: what is the fucking point of this
You had one baby win, and you smothered it immediately. Come onnnnnnnnnnnnn
Not a fan of bringing ads to games but my biggest issue with this is honestly the demo length. 1 hr was a decent chunk of game in like the 90's, but in a modern game? Your'e probably still in the tutorial learning basic controls.
See, THIS is why so many people just stick with Nintendo. Yes, obvs they also have some out-of-touch higher ups doing questionable, frustrating things at times. Annoying stuff that eventually subsides. Microsoft and Sony's worst blunders genuinely endanger the art form, and they *stay* with us.
Making it so you have to deal with ads to stream games you already own after your competitor said they're gonna kill off physical games in favor of digital purchases while we're in the midst of a ridiculous data storage price hike feels so maliciously intentional for where all this is going
Stream games YOU OWN “for free with ads” lol what
i told you people to never trust microsoft back when the first xbox came out
This sure reads like something that isn't supposed to be customer facing. But companies don't even care about that now they just go ahead and make their press release aimed at investors.
if i'm going to be fed ads in games at least let it be through billboards while i'm crosschecking skiiers off of grind rails to OK Go
No one asked for this
It's insane how frequently the gaming industry shows it's all just a dogfight to the bottom the winner is whoever has the most foot left after running out of bullets
when i die for the 20th time in a game and now i gotta hear "whopper whopper whopper whopper" so i genuinely start tweaking
So maybe I'm not understanding this but... If I own the game, why would I need to stream it? If I own it, why am I being interrupted by ads? Are they taking away the ability to download a game and saying that anything owned has to be streamed now? This makes no sense and is fucking horrid.
Well... Xbox insider can now stream games they own for free via an "Ad- supported Game Streaming Test & Learn" program. They show ads before the sessions beginn, gameplay stays unchanged. news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/0...
Why I believe this sucks: Bc we will end up in the same situation as always. Small spike of growth, new flat period, need to squeeze out more bucks out of existing customers, doubling ads or adding ads to already paying users and "hey for only $2.99 you can remove all ads!". The Prime way.
So kind of them to let us use their hardware power to play our games after they actively worked towards us filthy mortals never being able to afford our own computing power ever again 🥰🥰
I fucking hate this timeline.
Hyped to get my Colgate ad before playing Forza for 15 minutes and then getting hit with another ad 😊
