Indictment names Tim Pool among influencers tied to covert Russian operation

An indictment filed Wednesday by the U.S. Justice Department alleges a Tennessee-based content company linked to six conservative influencers, including Tim Pool, Dave Rubin and Benny Johnson, was secretly funded by employees of Russian state media to produce English-language videos that echoed Kremlin interests. Attorney General Merrick Garland told reporters Russia used state media to enlist unwitting American influencers to spread disinformation ahead of the 2024 election, and U.S. prosecutors say the funded content aimed to amplify U.S. domestic divisions and weaken opposition to Russian policies such as the war in Ukraine. The indictment does not charge the influencers with crimes and says some were given false information about the source of the company’s funding; Pool and Johnson posted that they were victims and denied wrongdoing, with Pool writing, “We still do not know what is true as these are only allegations” and calling “Putin a scumbag.” The Justice Department accuses two RT employees, Kostiantyn Kalashnikov and Elena Afanasyeva, of conspiracy to commit money laundering and violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and says those two funneled nearly $10 million to the content company; both are at large. U.S. officials described the indictment as the most detailed account so far of Moscow’s efforts to capitalize on the growing political influence of right-wing podcasters and livestreamers, and it marks the third consecutive presidential-election cycle in which prosecutors have publicly detailed Russian interference efforts.

MAGA is changing its tune. Tim Pool isn’t just a #MAGA propagandist – he’s a Russian asset. His company, Tenet Media, received money linked to Russia, and there is an investigation into it. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more anti-Ukrainian commentator.

Watching Tim Pool and Loomer's recent rapid evolution does leave you wondering how much Gulf state money underpins the American podcast industrial complex
