CBC identifies Vancouver stunt performer Devyn Dalton as Matt Damon’s stunt double in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Dalton, who stands four feet six inches tall, doubled Damon in a key Laestrygonian sequence that used forced perspective to make giants loom larger; Damon praised her, saying his double was a woman with "the greatest arms I have ever seen." Dalton told CBC she began performing at age nine and has more than 80 stunt and acting credits, and that the production used extensive hair, makeup and costume work to transform her into a miniature version of Damon. She trained in sword fighting for the role and said she stays ready year round through dance, acting and athletic training. Dalton welcomed Damon’s shoutout and said she hopes the attention will shine more light on stunt performers and inspire the next generation; she is currently on set for a top secret project in New Zealand.

For anyone wondering how and why, there is a scene in the movie where there are giants and to make them look bigger, they cast persons to play the leads who were of smaller stature to make the giants (which were physically present) look larger.

Not only that, silver armored giants were not CGI. Nolan got people who were actually 7 feet tall and up for the part. Size comparison to Matt's stunt double.

Fun fact: that's not Matt Damon. In the scenes with the Laestrygonians Damon was replaced by a Canadian stunt woman named Devyn Dalton so the Laestrygonians looked that much larger. He also said she had the "greatest arms" he'd ever seen.

The Odyssey actually had multiple female stunt performers for the Laestrygonian scenes where they were utilizing forced perspective!

Matt Damon‘s biceps in “The Odyssey” are getting a lot of attention from viewers impressed with the actor’s physical transformation into Odysseus, but Damon said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that his stunt double should also be getting the acclaim. A female stunt double stood in for Damon during the scene where Odysseus’ men face off against the giant Laestrygonians, for instance. “When we did the force perspective stuff with the Laestrygonians… there were these stuntmen who were all seven feet and then they got stunt men who were under five feet. My double was a woman, a female stunt performer who had the greatest arms I’ve ever seen. When she came into the catering tent, it was the first time I met her. I went up and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she put in.”

For sure - we judge the size of the move set in relation to the characters. So if she jumps 7 feet but we think it’s Matt Damon it appears she has jumped 9. I imagine that makes a big difference!

Damon was quick to confess that, in at least one key scene in Christopher Nolan's action-fantasy epic, those impressive arms belonged to someone else. His stunt double was a Canadian woman, Devyn Dalton, who is from Vancouver, BC — and, according to Damon, has "the greatest arms [he's] ever seen."

Matt Damon as Odysseus might honestly be his best performance since The Martian in my opinion. He truly portrayed how Odysseus is seen and revered as this legend by others like Menelaus or Eumaeus, but is truthfully a passionate man who cares for his own soldiers and loved ones back home.
