Trans Pride London marches and events take place today

London held Trans Pride marches, rallies and fundraisers today as supporters called for trans rights, donations and visibility. Organizers and attendees gathered at sites including Langham Place and Piccadilly, assembled outside the BBC building and carried the Trans Unity Quilt with hundreds of volunteers. Multiple posts and organizers put attendance at about 150,000 people, while other accounts described the crowd as 'huge' or 'hundreds of thousands'; some participants contrasted that with the roughly 33,000 figure cited for the city’s main Pride. Metro spoke with founding member Lewis G. Burton and Zack Polanski about the added weight of this year’s event as trans rights face rollbacks. The Good Law Project urged people to add their names, donate and press the new government under Andy Burnham to protect trans rights, calling July a pivotal moment. Organizers framed the event as both celebration and protest against cuts to work, sport, bathrooms, healthcare and legal recognition, and as a bid to force political leaders and institutions to respond.
