NY high school to pilot humanoid robot, teachers call it inappropriate

educationJul 25, 2026191,254

Salamanca High School in Salamanca, New York will pilot a humanoid robot called Sally and an AI teaching assistant as part of a district program. The Cattaraugus county school district purchased Sally for $57,590 and a district presentation says the robot will operate as a closed-loop system and be available virtually to students 24/7 with personalized learning options. The pilot is promoted in a Realbotix press release that says Salamanca will be the first US district to deploy a Realbotix M-Series humanoid robot using natural conversation, facial expressions and real-time interaction. Realbotix, formerly Tokens.com, bought Simulacra, a Las Vegas company associated with realistic sex dolls, for $16.7m in April 2024; Realbotix has denied connections between the dolls and the school pilot. Salamanca teachers, led by Lacey Pihlblad, president of the Salamanca Teachers' Association, urged the district to pause the robot and the software rollout over data security and recording concerns and said the move dehumanizes the profession. Melinda Pearson, president of New York State United Teachers, called the pilot "really inappropriate" and said teachers across the state are sounding the alarm and described the proposal as "creepy."

"What if we took Dangerous Minds & M3gan and put it together?" Anyway the fact the robot bodies are built on sex doll tech and this is an excuse to stop paying teachers while hypersurveilling marginalized students is 800 warning signs already but they're going to do it regardless.

Everyone who was in a position to say ‘don’t do this’ and didn’t has to be replaced with Real Dolls.

Hardly the main issue but why Mar-a-Lago face?

Anna Orridge25

I was in a fun pub conversation recently with some teachers and we were swapping stories of our experiences with 13-15 yo's in the classroom. Let's just say that the extent to which this will not work cannot be possibly be overstated.

"Robot from company that acquired sex doll maker to be introduced in school with large Native American population" And ain't that America?

What in the black mirror is this shit?

This is specifically cognitive imperialism, a concept named by L’nu professor Dr. Marie Battiste, used against Indigenous learners. As usual we are the test subjects. What you accept for us is coming for you.

This 👇 is why school board elections matter. The school district spent over $57,000 tax dollars on this garbage. 😡

‘Realbotix, formerly Tokens-dot-com, a Toronto-based company, purchased Simulacra, a Las Vegas-based company known for realistic sex dolls, for $16.7m in April 2024, marking a pivot for the company from crypto to humanoid robots.’ 40% of the students are Native American. What. The. Actual. Fuck.

Well, *I* think it's disgraceful that they're shaming this poor robot teacher for her sex-worker past.
