Phone-throwing drama at the Democratic National Committee
Democratic National Committee is horribly struggling. Republican National Committee is sitting on nearly $130 million. While DNC is $2 million in debt. Bad management of DNC but also another sign that the energy in the Dem base is for change--not the establishment. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/u...
Funny how Mamdani was so awash in cash he had to ask people to stop contributing. Voters will give handsomely if they agree with your ideas, and the mainstream Dems have none.
Have they tried spamming fundraising texts? I'm sure more of that will do the trick.
I give money only to progressive candidates. I have no interest in supporting establishment Dems who are content to remain the ineffectual wailing Greek chorus to this fascist coup, and enthusiastic handmaids to Israel’s atrocities.
Yet they still don’t get it! A lot of people are donating directly to candidates that are fighters.
The fundraising texts and emails to support dems who are voting for the child rapist president's cab picks, bills and election denying judges, taking pro genocide blood money, and being rabid corporate donor whores is not a winning strategy. The DNC should ask those A-hole dems for donations.
Perhaps their cash flow problems can be partially attributed to the fact they act like a scam website and harass you forever if you ever donated
I think I can say for all of us that we're tired of being asked for money anytime something bad happens only for the people in positions of power to sit on their thumbs and do absolutely nothing of meaning while scolding us for wanting better
Kamala Harris mobilized Nlack women and made millions in days Mamdani has to turn money AWAY DEMS had an option for a more progressive leader and chose this People are tired and after 2020s/ 2021 they are furious and betrayed
blowing up everyone's phones asking for $5 every time ice kills someone isn't working?
The DNC had one of the most effective political organizers of the 21st century running to lead the organization, and instead they chose this absolute anti-charisma loser who can’t organize or fundraise because Obama likes him or whatever.
I would love to find out that Amy McGrath has all the money
it's all in PACs because they aren't even gonna try to pretend anymore
What's that? I don't hear any struggling
At this point I have little patience or sympathy for institutional Dems, who have spent much of the last quarter-century sleepwalking into exactly this position and screaming at anyone who warned them about it.
Surely another thousand dishonest text messages and dishonest emails delivered at a steady one per ten minutes pace will right this ship
This is why I laugh (and sigh) whenever everyone talks about how powerful the DNC is. It's a shit show, and it's been a shit show for decades. Martin wasn't the right person to lead it.
No, seriously, Dems in disarray We really need to pull an 1850s Whig maneuver and replace the Dems with something better, but I really don't think you can do that when fascism is up in your face www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/u...
Not once in it does anyone ask why Ken Martin failed, or why the money dried up. 1) Ben Wikler was right there but they chose the old failed ways; 2) When a party uses its base only for fundraising & votes, but gives nothing in return, the base will find other uses for its money.
Democrats should ask - what would David Axelrod or James Carville do to restore the party? And then do the opposite.
We could have had Ben Wikler, man
If Dems clean up in the midterms, it will be IN SPITE OF the party apparatus, not because of
This explains a lot. I still do not understand how Ben Wikler was not voted in. His verve for fundraising in Wisconsin in 2020 got the nation involved; cast of Hamilton? Cast of Princess Bride in Zooms to cheer up a nation in the throes of a pandemic? I participated from Florida, it was so fun.
As the GOP gets crushed in (and at) the polls, the NYT runs a Dems in Disarray article that's promoted by Bunch because of course.
What can you even say at this point except you need to pray that the 2028 candidate is someone exceptional and you can sweep out or neuter the old guard.
Not specific to this article but: I love when a subject's complaints about leaks are leaked. I love reading, "I am sick and tired of all these leaks!" in the paper. I will always cackle and kick my feet when I see that. I'm like a toddler hearing "If You're Happy and You Know It".
The only people with the power to change leadership are DNC members and Ken himself. Hope they find it in themselves to honestly answer: Is the status quo serving our larger goals? www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/u...
The hits keep coming and keep begging the question. www.notus.org/democrats/dn...
This paragraph alone should get him canned as a “leader.” Completely out of his depth. Cut bait, move on.
looks like nonstop begging for donations to 'fight fascism' then not doing it for two years straight has consequences lol
What’s even worse than throwing his phone at a staffer is that he sent a fundraising email first.
I regularly beg my friends to sign up and become members of their local/state DNCs because the party is so weak and starved for leadership right now.
Put Ben Wikler in charge
My message to students just before evals.
I tried to warn everyone about this vindictive asshole...
DEM LEADERSHIP: "You shouldn't vote for DSA candidates because they aren't experienced and serious enough to run a real campaign to beat the GOP. Also, we're totally fucking broke and we're throwing phones at each other."
On the one hand, I do think Ken Martin has shown himself to be a bad leader and incapable of leading the party; abusing employees is unacceptable. On the other hand, there are a lot of elements here that aren't on Martin. They're longstanding institutional problems with the DNC. A 🧵
No, Bill Kristol. The Democrats do not need a republican to run the DNC, especially a racist and genocidal freak like Sarah Longwell. The “Never-Trump” conservatives destroyed their own party. They are a small contingent of the dems and don’t get to dictate the future.
All the ignorant left-punching from Kristol aside, the idea that Trump Jr would ever have a modicum of success in electoral politics is laughable at best aside from sheer name recognition.
Maybe we don’t need advice on politics from the champion team that brought us Sarah Palin before being outsmarted by the genius political instincts of the “dial the racism up to 11” wing
He was doing so well... And now this shit. The LAST thing we need is a fucking unity ticket with the fascists.
just because you fucked up your own party doesn’t mean you get to be in charge of somebody else’s
Crazy to say this but, no actually do not put republicans in charge of the Democratic Party, actually
Lol lol lol Sarah Longwell, the never Trump Republican who is trying to dictate who the Dems can have in their tent (not Piker)? The one who was creaming her pants over Liz Cheney in the 24 campaign & wanted Josh Shapiro as VP? THAT Sarah Longwell? Yeah she's such an inspirational force in the party
Like 90% of this website loves this loser lmao
Republicans still thinking that Republicans are the adults in the room while around the country Republicans are just doing incompetent shit.
okay who forgot to tell bill that while he was busy being a neocon they made weed like 1000x stronger
Never Trumpers who got us into this mess can shut up
If "Never Trumpers" are so decisive and effective, why did they fail to stop Trump from taking over their own party?
Key point from this article is that the DNC is kinda like FIFA or the US Senate where each state/territory has an equal voice so you can connive your way to the top by sending money to Wyoming and American Samoa www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/u...
It is as if the #BrokenTimes thinks Pitchbot is its assignment desk. Dems in disarray: Inside the Phone-Throwing Drama at the Troubled, Broke Democratic Party www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/u...
Yes we are in a pointless war brought to us by GOP, we have idiotic tariffs courtesy GOP, screwy GOP Supreme Court, dead GOP Senator still office, WH being destroyed, constant WH/GOP lying…but @nytimes.com tells us it’s Dems who are in disarray. NYT editors are clueless
Despite Internal Troubles, Democrats Poised For Big Gains. Fixed it for you.
the DNC needs a complete overhaul & KEN MARTIN was NEVER the solution (he was an insider) @davidhogg.bsky.social was right from the start - the org is broken - right before he was pushed out his main role is to fundraise, and the DNC is some $2MM in debt 🤮 #blues www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/u...
Vote for progressive candidates who have taken the "Reject AIPAC" pledge. This is our way forward. #Blues pledge.trackaipac.com
#Blues I would love for @staceyabrams.com to lead the party.
All of the Third Way "Passionate Moderate"-types should be shuffled to the side.
We're gonna have to play nice ish in 2026 bc we have to flip EVERYTHING blue. But then, the fossils are toast.
