Ser Criston Cole, played by Fabien Frankel, is killed in House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 6 when a trap of fake-slaughtered rivermen springs as he leads his remaining Green soldiers into a Team Black camp. The ambush, staged by Roddy the Ruin and Oscar Tully and carried out in the final strike by Alysanne Blackwood, hits Cole with a couple of arrows to the chest and one to the zygomatic bone. Earlier in the episode the show establishes rising chaos in King’s Landing: Daemon and the Small Council mourn the 25 Gold Cloaks found murdered and posed last week, Rhaenyra’s field army is still more than two weeks’ march from Tumbleton, and the queen decides to dispatch assassins rather than wait for the army. Daemon volunteers to attack Tumbleton but is instead kept in the city to investigate who is killing the Gold Cloaks. Criston’s death ends Fabien Frankel’s two-and-a-half season run and leaves his men leaderless, a sharp blow to Team Black and a major cliffhanger for Rhaenyra’s side going into the final stretch of the season.
