60 Minutes adds Ross Douthat; Junger, Gianna Toboni and Trevor Phillips
When CBS hired Morley Safer to 60 minutes, he was a few years younger than ross douthat, but had already covered 9 wars, including Vietnam, where he’d been shot down in combat, broke the infamous village torching story, & got an Emmy for the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. That’s a journalist.
The man didn’t need guns, look at those arms, awoogaaah
I remember as a kid thinking he was this bookish looking old guy and then in college we had an assignment reading about various journalists and I discovered what a badass reporter he was and how we as Americans owe so much to his journalism especially his coverage of Vietnam.
Ross writes sad opinions from his doughboy hutch, but he will always be remembered for calling Reese Witherspoon "chunky" in his takedown of a college student who allegedly came on to him. www.wonkette.com/p/ross-douth...
that's what a real journalist looks like, not some dude who's been to a war zone in a think tank
Morley was my favorite of all the 60 Minutes journalists.
Sure, but Ross has been in the trenches during the Great Culture Wars. Doing God's work, obv.
Per sources at CBS, Nick Bilton just sent out an email confirming the new correspondents at 60 Minutes. Besides Ross Douthat, he's announced Norah O'Donnell, Sebastian Junger Gianna Toboni and Trevor Phillips will have roles on the show.
If it's of any use, Trevor Phillips is just about least inquisitive, impressive, rigorous journalist you could possibly imagine. Perfect for Bari Weiss.
neither Trevor Phillips and Ross Douthat are news reporters. they are conservative opinion writers/ talking heads. that is a big shift for 60 minutes which has traditionally relied on experienced journalists to report complex stories. These two are not that.
The funniest thing is that Republicans don't watch this crap. The intellectual conservative is a dead animal. It's Fox or nothing. Sad times at CBS, but also hilarious to watch them just literally dig their own grave.
lol who would watch this? MAGAs don’t watch 60 minutes. Normal people would be repelled by this new show.
Ross Douthat and Norah O'Donnell will be full-time correspondents, per the email that I just received. Sebastian Junger, Gianna Toboni and Trevor Phillips will be contributors to 60 Minutes. Toboni, who is joining from CNN, will also be a CBS national correspondent.
The end of 60 minutes. It was a great run. Now it’s just a cbs trump sycophant show.
60 Minutes? More like 60 Seconds Before You Change Channels, amirite?!? (I charge extra for quality posts like this.)
"Ross is one of the preeminent public intellectuals in America today, a thinker of uncommon rigor and a journalist of deep empathy," executive producer Nick Bilton writes about Douthat becoming a 60 Minutes correspondent. "Ross will bring this big and ranging curiosity to our air."
Jesus Christ, just end the show now
haha trevor philips is a vile bigot.
Ugh, sorry Americans, if you don't know who Trevor Phillips is yet, well, let's just say it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that Bari Weiss hired a nasty British guy who was previously suspended from the Labour party for Islamophobia and is of course a transphobic bigot too.
This is not 60 Minutes. This is a clown car.
This simply can't be real. Propaganda doesnt work if no one is watching. 60 Minutes is done. Amazing how MAGA kills everything it touches.
Norah O'Donnell have some fucking dignity
In this house we respect only one Trevor Phillips
Junger really hurting that bad for a job?
I’d assumed that Douthat was being hired as an Andy Rooney-style commentator at the end of the show. But they have him listed as a “correspondent,” which is unusual for someone who is not exactly known as a reporter, especially an investigative one.
Are we sure Bari Weiss and Nick Bilton know what a correspondent does?
We can look forward to "investigations" of why America must become a catholic theocracy in order to thrive.
Especially accompanied by the sad-sack photo of Ross, I honestly assumed that this was an Onion spoof at first glance.
Will be interesting to see how he reacts to actual factchecking, or if 60 Minutes just decides to stop doing that now.
You presume that Bari Weiss knows the difference between a reporter and a commentator.
"Not exactly known as a reporter" in the same sense that I am "not exactly known for being married to Zendaya"
