“I saw a 20ft fireball burning through the trees, with nightjars flying away from the fireball. Last night I stood on the heath and it was apocalyptic, the sky was orange, the smoke was billowing, it could be seen and smelled 20 miles to the north.”

I want to thank our fire and emergency services for their dedicated work in incredibly difficult conditions battling the wildfire at Dunwich. I urge the public to follow the safety advice to stay away from the area and keep doors and windows closed.

This is terrible news. Dunwich Heath is a beautiful place and an important habitat for rare species. I saw Dartford Warblers there earlier this year. And it is right next to the iconic RSPB Minsmere reserve. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

The UK will be in drought until at least October. But there’s no such thing as a ‘new normal’ on a planet hurtling past 1.5C, on the way to 3C by 2050 & 4C in our children’s ‘lifetimes’. Without unprecedented societal change, we are in the beginning stages of a fairly rapid end.

It's not just Europe and North America trying to combat wildfires, in the UK wildfire numbers this year surge past 500, Suffolk burning as its residents and holiday makers are threatened. Badenoch and Farage still try to sell the lie there is no #climatechange, they don't care about us or the planet
