Wonder Man canceled at Disney+, Season 2 reversed
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has released a statement about ‘WONDER MAN’ being cancelled. “That’s life, right? Everything will shake out… I’m glad we got to be part of something cool.”
"Why isn't anyone watching our expensive new TV shows?!" because we think you'll cancel them and oh hey look at that, variety.com/2026/tv/news...
At this point I'm far enough behind to just not watch anything until I know it got a good ending, so uh. Good luck everybody looking at viewer metrics. Probably time to stop planning off that. Or not. Have fun either way, good luck.
"Why are you behaving the way we've trained you to behave?", the eternal cry of the prat who thinks he's smarter than everyone else.
"But we're excited to announce the upcoming feature film 'Wonder Man and Grogu' coming to theatres this Christmas!"
Also because we've been burned enough times by failed outings. Marvel shows benefit from the brand, but that brand can be tarnished by stinkers like Falcon & The Winter Soldier or Secret Invasion.
Yep, either they have one (1) season and then some dipshit in a fancy suit decides that it's not worth keeping around because they didn't meet their incredibly high ratings expectations, or they only plan for six or so episodes anyway, but release them all at once because... fuck if I know
‘WONDER MAN’ showrunner Andrew Guest has confirmed that the show is canceled.
Oh... So, that IS the official word... Well, that is admittedly disappointing. But it is at least good that they got this show off the ground rather than being shuffled off into development purgatory, and I am fairly sure that it won't be the last we see of these characters.
Oh I see. No new interesting things allowed in the MCU.
Personally, I would just stop consuming Disney media. This includes ABC and ESPN.
Wonder Man news sucks, but not surprising after years of the "Ease up on the quantity" criticism, they're doing exactly that with the shows and cutting back on them (Even though most of it in the first place was out their control because of Iger's demands and post-pandemic effects but still)
Not that we won't see any of those characters again, definitely think they have other plans for most of them, but it reminds me of what happened with the Netflix and ABC shows about a decade ago. Likewise, I definitely see some of these shows being reevaluated in the near future
I do want to be hopeful that we will see Wonder Man in the future again. Hopefully in a new movie.
Makes me wonder if we will see Simon in...new makeup
I didn’t know it was suppose to be anything more then a mini series
Even if Season 2 is cancelled, I hope we see Simon again as a part of the West Coast Avengers.
You’re telling me after doing piss poor marketing and making really bad television shows for years that no one watched Wonder Man and now it’s been canceled?????
Did yall bring it up on a podcast recently? Maybe it was another but that single comment about it and this article are the only times I’ve encountered it.
John, you hallucinating? That's clearly not a real thing
Unreal. Using superpowers and trying to hide them as an allegory for being gay and closeted was an excellent narrative choice. Was fun while it lasted.
Marvel now officially in the ‘how long was that?’ Abe Simpson’a pants staying up era. Got a successful movie with a beloved lead and cast?! Brilliant, immediately un renew our best Show! deadline.com/2026/07/wond...
Didn’t he get nominated for an Emmy? Maybe it was for something else. But this the only series that I’ve watched from start to finish on Disney in years. Boo Disney.
Fuck. I literally just started watching it today and I’m hooked. I’ll be finishing it out regardless. Sigh.
Ah fuck sake that was legit a great show
FFS they’ve made plenty of shite. This was great, and they cancelled it.
And they do this on the very same week that an MCU film directed by the show's creator (which I watched today and thought was great) is set to do about $400m at the global box office. FFS...
NO. NO DAMMIT. I HATE IT HERE this was marvels best show in.. Possibly ever, and so we cancel it? HATE. IT HERE.
That's lame It was an interesting show
This was the best thing Marvel made in a decade, receiving almost universal critical acclaim. Yahya Abdul Mateen was nominated for an Emmy. Season 2 was greenlit. This is a baffling choice.
This but replace Angela Bassett with Yahya Abdul Mateen and Oscars with Emmys.
All I can think is that Mateen, Kingsley, or Cretin pulled out in favour of some other project, and Marvel let it go because the ratings weren’t huge. Otherwise, this makes no sense.
Wonder Man Season 2 will now be a non-union "video podcast" available exclusively with a Disney+ subscription
